Just bought my Christmas tree from the market. The young man was so helpful. He said if I give it lots of light and water he will come pick it up after Christmas and take it away for me. These Colorado people are really nice.

    Don't test it.
    Trust us it will work.
Said by guys sitting behind desks in a room far from the front.

Both the magnetic detonator, and the manual firing pin would regularly fail.
And that's not even counting the stuck rudders that would force the torp into a circle.
Problem being, the end of a circle, is the beginning. Usually resulting in the loss of boat and every man aboard.

It took a couple of years for the war department to even acknowledge a problem existed too. In the mean time, sub commanders found ways of making them work by either deactivating the magnetic exploder or avoiding the perfect 90 degree hit. Our most successful submarine, the USS Tang, was sunk by her own circular running torpedo. She was on the surface at the time finishing up a night attack, so 8 sailors survived. The remainder are still at their stations.
