    He said "install it per the drawing". I installed it per the drawing. I just do what I'm told.

    I've done something like that. Tried to explain to the boss why I couldn't do what he wanted. He ranted and raved about just do the job, he doesn't want any excuses. So I put it where he wanted it. It wasn't this, but kinda similar.

    I had a boss that called that "malicious compliance". Sometimes he just couldn't help himself and he'd hate it when he got exactly what he demanded.

    I would call it "malicious compliance" if he wanted something done a certain way, and I didn't bring up the problems that my years of experience would figure out.
    But if I attempt to bring them out, and he doesn't want to listen, then too bad on him.
    Even worse when the plant manager ask me why it was done that way, and I inform him that's the way the boss instructed me to do it, after hearing my objections.
