Ok fellas. Question time. My oldest is Gonna be 6 later this summer and it’s been on my mind for a few years… But I wanna get some insight from those that have been there.

What did you teach your children to shoot with? I’ve got a few ideas in my head, but interested to hear others thoughts, opinions and experiences.

I started my stepson on a 9mm, the a 1911 in .45, but he was in his late teens at the time. I would advise starting her off with either a .22 plinker like your G44 or a .22 rifle. Get her used to all the basics without recoil and add something with recoil when you feel she's ready.

Plan was most definitely .22 rifle. I’ll save the handgun stuff for later on.

I started my son and daughter with a Red Rider bb gun at 5 then on a Marlin model 10 for a rifle and a H&R single action 22 revolver around 7. My daughter was shooting my AR and my dads 5906 at 10 and my son lost interest. He was more a mommas boy. Started my oldest gson & and gdaughter with the same Red Rider bb gun then a Marlin model 10 for the gson and got my gdaughter a pink cricket, she earned it. Ruger MKll for their first pistol. Gson #2 is still on the Red Rider and gson #3 isn't 1 yet so he uses a nerf pistol for a chew toy and hammer.
