Rusty has me thinking of getting a surplus CZ while they are available because a have a few bucks burning a hole in my pocket. I have been reading on czfirearms about the pre-B and transitional models. I would like not to have to search for mags but have the benefits of pre-B. So which model would you pick up?

If you want sights that are easily changed and you want mags that work across several models I would go with a transitional pre-B. If you don't care about that I would go with what some people call the "A" model which is what Rusty has.

I'd recommend a transitional for anybody who's looking for a shooter 75. The "A" is what I wanted because of the look. I can deal with its "issues". I would take a transitional over a new 75 anyday.

Are there any magazine compatibility issues for the A model with CZ Kadet magazines? I am thinking about buying a surplus gun to use as a dedicated frame for the Kadet kit.

I cannot answer that question, but the mag issue is solved with a file and a couple mins from what I gather. I mentioned this before, but a factory CZ SP01 mag fits perfectly in my A. However the mec gar mag DOGG had did not work. We should have tried a bunch of different mags Sunday....

Man, that seems high for that 1911. It looks like it's been run a bunch and the finish looks almost parkerized. There are (or were as of 2 weeks ago) brand new CZ 1911s at the LGS in Greenwood that could probably be taken home for that same money.
