The older I get the more I see the wisdom in that. I don’t know how many times I really wanted something but told myself “nah, maybe next year” only to see it discontinued or the company go under.
While delayed gratification makes a lot of sense and responsibilities must be meet before non-essential purchases, there comes a time when life must be enjoyed when it presents an opportunity.

    Life is short. Carpe diem.

    Nice mansion
Ehh. Just a bunch of old houses in an old town.

Interesting story. Two brothers owned a local ag implement dealership. That house was one brother. Other brother built my house. Their mother's house (oldest house in the neighborhood) is next door to me.

We used to a have a lamp post at the corner of lot next to that house. My step-grandfather had told me they put that light close to Mom's house so she could see the sidewalk to walk over....

Another tid-bid. My step-father took the daughter of my home's owner to the prom in high school. We have a picture of him in our basement as a high school senior. 1960ish?

Another factoid. When my mother became engaged to my step-father in 1975, she had her first Women's Club meet and greet in what is now our house.

...aren't you glad you asked.

Thanks for the good wishes .... from you, and several others that have sent them. :)
My wife picked up some over-the-counter meds that have helped me, so today is a bit better.
Still .... I'm hunkering-down at the house for the weekend. Doing the 'drink plenty of fluids' routine, and hopeful that the symptoms will taper off.

I've got you up in prayer my friend....

I haven’t looked yet. It hit hard. Very hard.

They were trying to drop it in the yard and failed. It was clearly leaning streetward….
Did they used wedges to try to push it the other way?
That's what I do with those trees that think they are going the way they leaned for years.
If that isn't enough a rope, pulley, and come along tied on to coax it the right way.

Let’s just say in spite of a JD624 loader, some wedges and a prayer - it went to the street.

Yep. About a 16” round indention. Street was repaved in 2022.

It would have been far cheaper for the city to hire a professional. They will be back Monday for a slightly smaller maple on the opposite side on the street.

Ah so city employees not a professional tree service.
I was going to say they would be liable for repair of any potholes.
Since it's city employees it's on the taxpayers.
