On an non-gun note, I had some success last night in troubleshooting and fixing another old camera. A couple of weeks back, I picked up a pair of Canon A-1 bodies for parts/repair. One has a dead display but seemed to function fine otherwise. The other was just dead but had a good display.

I started working with the one with the good display, figuring that I'd have better luck if I focused on the mechanical side instead of electrical issues. With a little prodding, I found that I could get the shutter to fire, so I spent some time cleaning and lubing up all known issue points with the camera. The camera responded well and without too much trouble, it would fire the shutter and seemed to be back working. Except, both shutter curtains released at the same time.

I shot a slow motion vid of a working camera and this non-working one to see what was going on. The video showed that the second shutter electro-magnet was not working. That magnet had a bunch of corrosion on it, and under very close inspection, I could see that the armature wire was broken on one side. I had a very nice looking magnet in the other camera, so I moved that one to this camera and now all seems to be working well.

Lessons learned for me on this one is that I need smaller soldering iron tips. Removing and re soldering tiny components is not easy with something designed to do heavy work. New iron tips are on the way now.

This is the black camera in the pic below. It's now just waiting to be tested with film.

88’s camera restoration and (picture) shooting gallery. When will you put a darkroom in your house?

Witness .45 has been spoken for. I love this place.
It’s a nice, soft shooting 45 that I am sure is much better than when I had it but it had to go to make room for a 97 in my safe. Glad its staying in the group.

Four years before I joined INGO, I went to a rodeo in Laramie, Wyoming (so I don't think that you've seen any of these photos).
Maybe it'll bring some smiles on a dreary day.

The last photo won recognition from an international photography forum. The little girl won the "Junior sheep-riding contest".
