Not finding useful information in my searches...Will anyone explain to me why this would be an important item to store?
If you're just talking a short term thing, it may not be such a big deal, but long term, as in weeks turning into months, and so on, I could see it being a VERY sought after commodity.I understand the importance in todays world, just question its actual purpose if shtf. Most items are common sense just struggling with this one.
Salt is the other big one as far adding flavor to something, at least for me.
And curing meat
Quick energy. Sweetens baked goods. Sugar of some sort makes yeast work better. Sugar can be used in making alcoholic beverages. Sugar works as an antibiotic in a wound. As long as it's kept dry it stores well. Doesn't go bad easily.
And it makes my tea sweet. Sweet is also a highly coveted taste and as barter goods, sugar is probably high on everyones list.
And curing meat
........I have read about people in long term deprivation situations giving up when their eating became monotonous. I don't know if there is truth in that or not, but I can certainly imagine that a rare treat could be a good addition in a tough situation.
