I'm 33 and have considered a career change recently. Is the police academy a residence program, or something that could be commuted to?

Your approaching the cut off age of 35-36 for most depts. if I remember right. So you might want to put your search into high gear as it usually takes a couple tries to get high enough on the list to get taken during each hiring phase.(unless you have something lucrative to offer, military, 2nd language.) Also, there are quite a few departments that do not do the ride along programs for various reasons. Just walk into town hall and ask the receptionist. Im sure they will be able to direct you on what you need to do.

Step 1: Get bullied in high school.

I actually lol'd at that one because of an inappropriate inside joke between me and my old partner.

The only academies I know of are the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) at Plainfield which is where 90% of LEOs in the state train, IMPD has it's own academy and IU Bloomington has an academy.

Doesn't Ft. Wayne still have their 20 week academy?
