That's how a lot of highly skilled carbine users roll, especially with an AK. I tried it in training, but I kept twisting anyway and inserting the mag backward. An argument can be made that "beer canning" longer rifle mags is more efficient, especially since the final insertion is identical regardless of which direction your mag is oriented on the belt. With 20 round mags that you can load more similarly to how you reload a pistol, it's a different situation.
More importantly, I can't extract enough data from the photo to assert whether or not the shooter seems nice.
