I've never even handled a CS9. I'm not sure I've even seen one in person.

How do they compare to a 3913/3914/908?

The CS9 is about a 1/4" shorter in both height and length. Not really enough to make much of a difference, but it is 5oz lighter and that is noticeable. I still prefer the 3913 size(or 3953 in my case).

If you are looking for a decent CCW or truck gun, this might be a cheap option...the precursor to the 3913?

Interesting bit of customization and cool piece of 1st to 3rd gen history.

The ASP 9: The coolest gun you never heard of

    "Cheap," eh?

I've handled an ASP. Very cool and amazing for its day, but I think a 3913 can outperform it in every category except "freakin' spendy."

Thank you, now I don't have to post a picture of my 1006 since Photo Bucket crapped out.

    You rang?

btw...it travels IWB with no problems at all, so it's no mere showpiece or range gun.
There are several missed opportunities in anyone's life, but I'm happy to say that this wasn't one of those.

I think we need to post any gun show finds and prices if we don't buy. I know they do this quite a bit on the S&W forum but most of the shows the post are on the east coast.

I was going to say asp's aren't cheap anymore.

And not run each other up on Gunbroker like apparently some of us did on that CS9, haha.

Along the lines of the gun show sightings - I sure wouldn't mind seeing when another LGS has a Third Gen in stock since we all tend to be looking for slightly different models (except a CS9...).

Absolutely, I know that I've seen S&W 3rd gens in at Auburn Arms a couple times and it seems like Mile Corner in Garrett usually has a 910/915 on the shelf.

I also think a location if a LGS and price for those who may be interested if you can remember. This could be a very lucrative plan for all involved.

What's the story behind the red dot on the 3906?

I won the B Square mount which mounts using the square trigger guard from Ebay or GB for something like $20. I then picked up a Sightmark from Cabelas on sale and with my points for I think around $15. I have yet to get it zeroed but hopefully will get out there when the weather warms back up next year.

    Have at it fellow aficionados.

....but stay away from tonight's 1911 Billboard on GB. :)

Got it....feel free to resume your normal bidding habits...LOL

Gunbroker has always been full retail (with a few exceptions) but, it seems really high lately with Asking Prices way above fair market value (with fees and shipping included) and those auctions that do sell - sell strong. For example, that CS9 we bid on ended up at $555 (plus $30 shipping, your FFL fee and mailing a check or a CC fee).

I tend to only follow S&W semi's and revolvers and some WWII bolt action stuff so my exposure is limited. Granted, I picked up a new M&P 2.0 5" for $405 (fees included) and the 1911 will end up to be $650 in my hand but I am finding it much harder to get "a deal". I'm sure that AR's and the like are soft, though AK's seems pretty strong again.

What do you think? Are prices continuing to trend upward? If they pass nationwide CCW, will there be no CS9's ever to be bought for a fair price again? Will they ever sell that 3906 for $1100?

I've seen the 4506-1 creep in price, and as long as there isn't a LEO dump on the market in general prices are up. 5906's use to be had for $275 quite regular about 5 yrs back, now the run $315-375. I know the 59xx 15/14 round mags are hard to find in my 20-25 dollar shipped price range compared to several years ago.
