Wow.. Wow WOW, one of the most ballsy strikes I have ever seen executed
Ukraine used Strike hellicopters flying stupid low, down between houses low. to hit an oil depot IN Russia..
Whoever came up with this, and flew this.. has balls the size of cannon balls.
They hit it because they detirmined that is where the fuel was coming from that supplied the vehicles attacking Ukraine. Simple as that.Do you think that strike hit refined product bound for the Russian market or European markets?
It may have been ballsy and even well executed, but that does not mean anyone thought about the results it would have and on whom.

Even the Doolittle raid caused Japan to strengthen their air defense forces. It had a psychological effect on the Japanese people as well as they thought they were untouchable in the homeland.Regardless of the strategic or tactical damage done by the Ukrainian strike on the Russian oil depot it is a huge morale booster for the Ukrainians and a slap in the face of Russia. It is psychologically significant.
It is much like the Doolittle raid on Tokyo in 1942. The Doolittle raid was militarily useless. It cause no real damage, killed a few people, and didn't slow down Japan in any way whatsoever. However, the Americans were ecstatic! It really boosted morale on the home front after the devastation of Pearl Harbor. We had been fairly well damaged and were reeling at the loss, then - Boom! Doolittle strikes Tokyo.
The Ukrainians, as I see it, pulled off a similar stunt. Russia has been slowly advancing and all of a sudden, almost 20 miles inside Russian territory the Ukraine hits a Russian depot! The conflict just became a little more costly, a little more messy than Russia would like it to be.
It may cause the Russians to start to, for the first time, think defensively. Where are we weak? Where can the Ukrainians strike next? What forces do we need to redeploy to defend?
Then again, maybe it really does do nothing - just like Doolittle.

This is the second, In the opening days of the war they launched some ballistic missles at an airfield in Russia.Awesome. I was wondering when Ukraine would hit something inside Russia, if only for morale and propaganda value.
Helluva duty for two Hind crews to pull. If it went south they'd have been two charred craters in the landscape, unremarked upon. Perhaps the Russians don't have much AA defense in depth.
The Doolittle Raid may have been responsible for the Japanese offensive that lead to Midway.Even the Doolittle raid caused Japan to strengthen their air defense forces. It had a psychological effect on the Japanese people as well as they thought they were untouchable in the homeland.

The Doolittle Raid will be celebrating an 80th anniversary later this month. Another comparison between the two missions: the danger involved with just getting to the target. Hind helicopters aren't the most maneuverable of rotary-winged aircraft, looking over and seeing rooftops doesn't leave much room for error. Medium bombers launching (no catapult) off a carrier... nuff said.Regardless of the strategic or tactical damage done by the Ukrainian strike on the Russian oil depot it is a huge morale booster for the Ukrainians and a slap in the face of Russia.
