Does anybody else resent the media's reference to these nuts as "right wing"? I'd consider myself on the right politically, and it feels like the term "right wing" is used to smear everybody on the right by association with nuts that want to do violence. Reporters are very quick to distance islamic extremism from moderate islam, but want to use terms applicable to all conservatives and republicans to describe violent criminals.

DHS intelligence report warns of domestic right-wing terror threat - CNN.com

As an aside, I imagine if I was a muslim that I would resent the White House's statements that we need to create inclusive cultures that welcome muslims into nations and communities as a means to combat extremism. This sounds like code for "those ISIS fellows are muslims like you that we've all treated badly." Are they moderate muslims that we haven't adequately assimilated, or are they something else?

Considering that nearly all those who will either make excuses for ISLAMIC terrorists are very much on the left, yes, your resentment is more than well founded.
In fact, these Islamists are often directly allied with actual communists/socialists, and their ideology has much in common with that, with the sole exception being that they are religious based.
The media gets it 100% out of phase.

This is "Alinsky 101", you demonize the opposition so that nobody can take them seriously. By lumping Christians, Conservatives, white men, etc. into the same category as Islamic terrorists you change the game, so to speak. Now you can just focus on the enemy, which for the most part is people like us. You know radical gun fanatics who could erupt into a killing spree at any moment.

I have no fear of "right-wing" terrorists. There is no such thing! There are neo-nazi fascists (i.e. skin heads) which are a fringe group and there are Islamic terrorists. When was the last time you heard of a "Christian" terrorist? Or a CONSERVATIVE terrorist? Or even a Republican terrorist?

Did you know that the origins of the "wings" comes from the French revolution? In one famous incident, the National Assembly members lined up on the left and right sides of the room. The people on the RIGHT wanted to live under a king. The people on the LEFT were in favor of radical ideas, like free markets and allowing the peasants to vote.

I think it would serve us all well to completely abandon this ludicrous Left-Right paradigm. The entire political spectrum cannot be spread neatly into two categories. The way it is used today is incredibly meaningless and incredibly deceptive. The current political kingpins use it to keep us divided and supporting scumbags who are supposedly a part of our "wing."

I can't stand it used in any context. Pick a meaningful term to describe yourself, like a "free market supporter," or a "constitutionalist," or a "capitalist," etc. At least these words have some functioning definition, rather than "I'm a Right Winger!!" :n00b:

Oh, nonsense. Those groups wanted anything but less government intervention.

Ideologically, they are nearly identical. The defining difference is that one group is willing to act violently to advance their ideology, and the other isn't.

What the heck is the proper definition of a "right winger"? Who is the quintessential example of a right winger?

Anarcho-libertarians by definition want zero government, the Weather Underground for example wanted to infiltrate government, seize the reins of power and eliminate those ideologically opposed to them. We can argue about tactics but their goals and ideology are nothing alike.
