as the title says, me and my girl went downtown to check out the superbowl stuff going on and i figured i would give my thoughts on it. first off, it was alot of fun with out spending a ton of money. i think all together i spent $25 which ill break down for yall. parking $6 in the lot next to the city county building (other places closer to the superbowl village was $20-35), sodas for me and the girl at $3 each, and then we got a pretzel at a street vendor for $4 with cheese. all and all we did it fairly cheap since we didnt do any drinking or other of the expensive stuff. there is alcohol, soda, food, etc for sale EVERYWHERE so what ever your in the mood for, its available. along georgia street, there are propane/natural gas heaters all over the place and indoor areas to warm up so you dont freeze!

for the familys, there is A TON of kids stuff to do. had football throwing targets, 100 yard dash, string golf, corn hole, and lots more stuff to check out. lots of clean restrooms with the heat pumping which was nice for my lady. there were indy cars decorated with each of the NFL teams logos and such, concert with bret michales, and of corse the zipline which was sold out... if you want to do the zipline, tickets go on sale at 11am each day and the wait is roughly 2 hours from what the employees said.

20-35$ to park a car is out of control! Sounds like theres plenty to do down there on a budget ... Hopefully they will start hosting the Super Bowl in open venues and maybe have one in D.C. so i can attend the festivities. Never would have thought they'd have all this going on.

Thanks for the tip on parking. I wasn't going to go because I didn't want to pay $20, but got the $6 spot on Alabama between Ohio & Market.. I was out there for about 2 hours this morning. It was windy and chilly but I was bundled up and it was just my face that got cold at times.

I got a slice of pizza from "The NY Slice" food truck parked on the north side of the circle for $3.50 and a diet coke for $1. My "splurge" was buying a hat in The Huddle for $25.

I enjoyed seeing the JW Marriott all "wrapped" with the Lombardi trophy. I think that was my favorite part. I was pretty impressed with all the work that went in to getting the area ready. It's pretty amazing.

My brother is performing from 5pm - 11pm everyday somewhere around Georgia and Illinois. He is spinning fire, check it out if you get a chance. You can search Jerry Hatcher on youtube to see some videos.

So far the crowds are really nice. They are there to have a good time but nothing out of control. It is impressive to see the numbers out even in the colder weather. 100% a good place to bring the family.

We were down there from noon till about 7:30 tonight. I really had a great time, and give a big thumbs up to the city, the organizers, and those working the events.

Everyone was doing their best to make sure we had a "Super Day" and we met several very nice volunteers while we were wandering around town.

We did the park and ride and I would recommend that. I think it was $2 per person for what is essentially a ticket to ride the bus to and from the parking location. Busses run every 15 minutes and take you to the Government center.

I need to upload my pictures, but some of the highlights were:

Indycars painted with all the NFL teams. Very cool, and throughout the day this seemed to be one of the busiest attractions. THere were several great places to stop and have a beer while walking around, and seemed like most prices were around $7 for a bottle. A few places had $5 and $6 beer as well.

We would walk around for an hour or so, then find a place to go in and warm up. We had a few beers at Kilroys, and spent some time at the Huddle (Old Nordstrom's) also warming up. We also caught the WISHTV news live there, which was neat to see.

All in all the downtown looked great, and the crowds seemed very orderly and good spirited. The only negative of the day was the loud mouth drunk on the bus back to the garage. Every 3rd or 4th word was G-Dammit, $h!t, H-e-double l, etc. Lots of kids on the bus too, and the guy wouldn't knock it off.

I hope everyone that goes has a great time but I won't be going anywhere near there if I can avoid it. I never really enjoyed the downtown area even without a crowd. That's just me though.

I hadn't planned on going because of the chaos, but I ended up going anyway earlier this evening. It was great! Lots of LE presence but I didn't see anybody in the large crowd that was causing trouble, just lots of folks having fun. You also don't have to be a sports fan to enjoy this, it's amazing to see downtown transformed. So, for all you hermits that said you aren't going near downtown: get over it and get down there, it's a great experience.

Also, a BIG pat on the back for all the organizers, planners, and volunteers. It was unbelievable to see how smoothly things appeared to be running. Plenty of folks to greet you and point you in the right direction, and everything looked very professionally done.

Is this going on after this weekend?

We went at night and it was pretty fun. There was a club inside the huddle and the music was pretty good but it didn't seem that busy to me. Going back again this week but I had a good experience.

If $25 is out of control never go to any big city.

As for parking, the park and ride is a great alternative to the high prices down town. We paid $2 a person to park in the Garage at Market and New Jersey, and took a bus from there to the Government Center.
