    That's a good philosophy Eddie. I certainly will not go without electricity on purpose, but like you I use a mix of old and new, and am fairly sure that although it would be hard at times, I could live without a lot of the new if that's what the world came to. I put that book on hold at my local library. Looking forward to reading it.

    Happy birthday to this thread. I have the Back to Basics book. Got it when I was 13, which is when I first became interested in living closer to the land. Seems to me the closer you are to the land, the better off you'll be if SHTF. This is what my wife and I are working toward, slowly but surely. I don't believe in having preps in the basement or whatever, I think it is best to live your preps, which it seems was Jack's point.

    Just got the Back to Basics book for Christmas...skimmed the whole thing pretty thoroughly last night. It looks like a good resource. I pray I live long enough to try my hand at 50% of what's in that book.
