    they gotta be there or else when you take your magazine cap off the spring will come flying out and stick you in the eye.ive seen this happen numerous times.

    The old ones had spring metal pushed in and you used snap ring pliers to remove them. Once removed you did not need to do anything else to put the extension on. However most people broke them removing them so they changed the design.

    Dremel with the grinding wheel worked like a champ, only took about ten minutes.

    Yep!
    I used my dremel with the rubber sanding wheel and fine sand paper.
    It took about 10 minutes and the job was done. I've never had a problem with feeding issues.
