I just bought a new Glock 36 yesterday and I keep reading about Gen 1,2,3,and 4. Can you tell me what I have or how to tell ?

Gen 4 has "Gen 4" engraved on the slide (also interchangeable back straps). Gen 3 have finger grooves and light rail. Gen 2 have no finger grooves or rail and the texture on the grip is separated from side, front and side. Gen 1s have a continuous texture wrapped around. These are general guidelines and there are some other differences in mid-gens as well. Show us a good pic from the left side.

    I'm not 100% sure there is a Gen 1 or 2 Glock 36. I think they started with Gen 3 or a 2/3 hybrid.

Now that we have got Harry converted it's time for him to get rid of all those XD's he has they will not want to play nice with each other locked up in his safe. Harry I will have my G17 tonight and show you what a Gen 2 looks like. Once again welcome to the family and now time to pass the Kool Aid on. Haha

Gen 1 no rail no finger groves, gen 2 finger groves no rail, gen 3 rail and finger groves, gen 4 will be marked gen 4 and have interchangeable backs straps at least on the full sized model. That's my understanding anyway.

Not quite, Gen 2s don't have finger grooves either. I think I've seen very limited Gen 2.5s that had that setup though. I believe the 17 was the only 1st Gen model made.

The G-36 has never had a rail on it whereas the G-26, 27, 29, 30, and 39 do have the rail!

Glock has managed to slim down the grip size on several of their larger-framed pistols, such as the G-20 (10mm) and G-21 (.45acp) as well as their compact counterparts, the G-29 and the G-30 respectively! However, I have never seen the G-36 grip shortened to accomodate a smaller hand size!

Sartwell...the G-36 in .45acp is an excellent personal defense pistol, carrying 6+1 of .45acp rounds! Congradulation's on getting one!

Q: Did you get it from Jerry's?
