I am new to my LTCH and I have been checking store fronts and such for signs that they prohibit me to carry my pistol inside. I cant say I've ever noticed them before now and I find some places I used to regular are no goes.

What will happen if I miss a posted sign and I am found carrying inside?
(I am not asking about any of the places prohibited by state law)

What do you do when you carry and see a sign but need to enter?
I hate to go back and leave it in the vehicle but so far thats what I do.

    Thanks
    Joe

At worst, they can ask you to leave. If you refuse to do so, you can be charged with trespassing, but that has nothing to do with carrying a gun. In Indiana, the signs have no force of law behind them.

There is one school of thinking that if a sign is posted and you go in anyway, you are violating the property owner's rights by carrying anyway and you should not have gone in. The other school of thought is that what they don't know won't hurt them. I can tell you that I would be part of both schools of thought. Not because I find the owner's right particularly fragile and un-treadworthy but because I wouldn't want to fund an establishment with my hard earned dollars that adheres to that philosophy. In the end, you have to make that decision for yourself.

I see that sign at Dicks all the time.

Does anyone actually check their guns in?

The last time I was in there my wife was with me and she knows I carry. I pointed at the sign as we went in, she stopped to read it and she just rolled her eyes and laughed to me... Of course I would not "check-in". Concealed means concealed....

If I see someone put up a sign I will ask them, "Are you just trying to be Dick's?"

I hope they have never heard of that store.

I cut up my Dick's reward card after the hassle of returning my sons $50 airsoft rifle when it broke, and he bought the $10 "no sweat warranty". No Sweat My ASS!

I carry concealed at Dicks all the time. If they have noticed they have never said anything. If you don't call attention to yourself, generally no one cares.
