So someone gets busted on charge that, in many cases INGO finds offensive (straw purchase laws), but we'll still use it in a meme to besmirch Obama who had nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the rest of the story.

I am probably wrong, where has INGO ever come down that straw purchace laws are offensive?

Is there anyone who thinks that what this guy did, buy ing firearms with a false ID and selling them to others (likely also prohibited), should not be illegal?

Was Obama responsible? Most likely not.

Snopes is good for many things, but the way they portray this paints an inaccurate picture.

    - A U.S. Attorney is part of the Justice Dept. and is appointed by the president. A plea bargain, that is dropping 54 counts to allow a plea to one does not happen unless the U.S. Attorney wants it to happen. That article is written almost as if the U.S. Attorney is not in the Justice Dept., not an Obama appointment, and has no say about the plea bargain. All false. Did Obama have anything to do with this directly? Likely, no, but he appoints people to these posts that he finds of like mind.

    - As for the judge, yes, appointed by Bush, but once a plea has been worked out, it is rare (but not unheard of) that it will be rejected by judge. So, they are correct that some "blame" goes to the judge, but the judge never has anything to do with this without the U.S. Attorney recommending this.

    - Could this have happened with a Bush (or Trump) appointed U.S. Attorney? Sure, theoretically...but it didn't in this case.
