It sounds even more ridiculous to people who have home schooled continually since 2003.

I had my 15 year old son install new speakers in my truck unsupervised last Saturday. I'm probably going to have him do the spark plugs next.

My 16 year old daughter wants to earn money, so she is going to learn drywall finishing starting with filling screw holes.

This is completely normal for us.

Plugs used to be an easy job and still is most of the time. :) But I changed mine last summer and it took me two hours. I had to move the steering column out of the way to get the middle of the left bank. Just thought I would mention that or you might be teaching him how to swear better too.

Let me guess, chevy blazer/s10/gmc jimmy? That gave me a hell of a time until I realized it was only 1 bolt to remove it.

Appreciate it....and he'll have to learn some time.

I recall the outrage expressed by my father, who had been farmer (and thus a farm mechanic), then an aircraft mechanic, and took care of most of the maintenance on his own automobiles for years, when he discovered that to change the rear most spark plug on one side of the V8 of his brand new 1977 Camaro LT (a thing of beauty in bluegreen metallic exterior and completely white interior) that one of the engine mounts had to be loosened. He could not fathom that anyone thought this acceptable to produce and sell.

Yes. I used to have a Trans Am with a 400 ci V8 and the best way to change plugs was to take the front wheels off and go through the well. The back ones were still difficult.

All of the GM V8'swere that way. There were many cases of mechanics not changing that one, even in leaderships.

Ever changed the battery on a Sebring? Yes, the freaking BATTERY... the directions start with "jack car up and remove driver's side front wheel..." I kid you not. Some engineer should be castrated with the back side of a dull butter knife for that one...

I hear you. I have to take the intercooler off to change the battery on my MR2 and I have an MGB where it is under the floor behind the passenger seat.
