This is called baiting. The police pick a fight and then cover it up with Resisting Law Enforcement.

Do not do as this guy did. Do not engage the police in an argument as it is akin to staring at a pit bull. You will cause them to charge.

Do not say anything. Smile and blow kisses at them and stop running your yaps.

In my experience if you say a few yes sirs the cops usually wont beat you up. I mean call me old fashion but manners are still a very useful tool for surviving in the real world.

Nope, but they should be looked upon with the same suspicion you would a gang member or a pit bull. QUOTE]

Sorry I usually wouldn't post this but this remark made me remember an email I received from a firearms instructor that is a retired police officer. I won't put the names up but I no longer receive his emails and won't be taking any more classes from him. This is from the email I received:

I had a young man ask me several years ago, "Who is the baddest gang in Evansville?" Without delay I said, "That's easy, it is the same gang that you will find in every city in the USA." He said, "So who is it?" I replied, "The cops." I told him that there was no badder gang that wears colors than law enforcement officers. When one of them calls for help they come out of the woodwork to his aid. They all carry guns, they are very well trained, they communicate and coordinate well, and some of them even have air support.

Let's pretend for a moment, for sake of discussion, that for whatever reason there was no video of this incident.

What would some of you say then? How many of you would rely solely on the police report and say "he got what he deserved."?

Exactly. The police report stated that the cameraman put both of his hands on the shoulders of the enforcer.....while holding a camera.

Lie on a police report. Fired. No shuffle game either. To many times these guys move a few counties or states away and get to start fresh.

So I'm as suspect as a gang member due to the actions of other people in my profession? Seems perfectly rational to me.

I've arrested white males who legally owned firearms but treating all white males who own firearms as suspect would be wrong, right?

I've arrested meth heads who live in trailer parks but assuming everyone who lives in a trailer park is a meth head would be wrong, right?

I've arrested drug dealers who drive cars with big shiny wheels but suspecting everyone who has big shiny wheels of being a drug dealer would be wrong, right?

    Love double standards

I normally agree with MJ but on this you are correct. Again the media LOVES to point out a good story, and the stories of heroism and greatness you guys do every day are only a ho hum story. Keep up the good work sir!

    Thanks,
    Matthew

No double standard at all. Just enlightened self interest. No-one can tell when a member of any given group with a track record of violence is going to go off. Best to view them with suspicion till you know better. Just like many of your "brothers" do on a daily basis, where the general public is concerned. There are officers right here on INGO who've made it clear that we're all suspects who haven't been caught yet. It's a two way street.

Occupational profiling. It gets you home safe at the end of the day.

Except for the camera man who wasn't doing anything wrong. I would have told those officers to get off my property immediately if the story is true that he did live there.
I really hope that officer loses his job and he'll have some long time to think about his actions.

    Hello,

The media is awesome, and terrible all at the same time. A double edged sword. I like the Police a lot (as has been noted) but with "great power comes great responsibility" when a cop does wrong because of the power he wields he should get in trouble doubly in my mind. I hope he does lose everything and be an example for others. As always Mr Jarrell good posts, and a great mind. Keep it up!

    Thanks,
    Matthew

Yeah that police man need to be in jail & should be made to suffer from hemorrhoids:D

    So what you're saying is.....
Let's pretend for a moment, for sake of discussion, that the person behind the camera was.... Brandon Johnson?

    Hmm, Interesting.

You're allowed to tape what's going on in public in most states, NV being one of them. Unfortunately some officer don't like that and will beat and kidnap you if you do. Just like this man in Las Vegas. It's likely to cost the PD a lot of money and should, (but probably won't) cost the cop in question his job and a good chunk of time behind bars. (Video at the source).

And remember. It's just one bad apple.

    "Just one bad apple"?

That line used to hold validity...

I guess if the cop yells "Stop Resisting" while he's beating your face in he's covered. I can't believe the cops didn't erase the video while they had the guys camera in their possession. The cop has had 2 fatal shootings in 5 years, doesn't that seem to be a lot? I'm not a LEO so I don't know how many fatal shootings are deemed "average". I know there are a lot of good cops out there but unfortunately there are some bad ones like this guy. Godspeed to the good ones....:yesway:

    Question.

If you were this filmers spouse, and witnessed this entire episode... would you be within your legal rights to take defensive action? Fatal defensive action?

Are you ever within your legal rights to open fire on a LEO, first?

There was thread a couple of years ago that asked a question similar, about shooting at a cop in public. It was highly scrutinized. I think this video is fairly close to showing that sometimes you are justified. I would not have intervened in this particular situation, but damn, it would have sucked to be their!
