Mij commented in the other thread about not knowing what beats three of a kind. A Google search for what wins in poker brings up some nice charts to be referenced. I don't have any specific tips right now as we just play with friends, but we do enjoy it.

Thank you @mom45 , also thanks for clearing that last comment for me. When do you decide to raise and when do you decide to fold? My current method is if I get a high card (9-A) I’m more inclined to raise early, and raise higher if i hit a pair or two pair.

We don't play high stakes poker so we don't normally bid like you would when in a true game. We have a $5 maximum and if we run out of change, we play for free and try to win back what we lost. :bacondance:

Thanks @mom45 , thought I’d keep my mouth shut for a bit. The fellow implied he may know you and I wanted to keep myself in the clear. Just in case you know.

That was a joke brother lol. Lightening the mood, by the looks of it, it worked well.

Never met @mom45 , but hope to one day be able to beat her in poker lol

    In the country, hopefully.
My bestie is in Vegas this week playing big boy table black jack. There's something about casually tossing a few hundred dollar chips on the table that just makes me wince.
My dad enjoyed blackjack but had a theory; he said someone goes to Vegas with a grand (or whatever) and thinks it’s a lot of money and wants to sit at a big boy table, when in actuality with a grand you should be sitting at a nickel or a penny table, not a five dollar table.

The house always wins but the house wins easily and quickly when someone runs out too fast.

I’m sure the same applies to poker.

    While, I'm not a gambler.
She does ok with the big boys. I get the perks of her status carrying a GM rewards card. Free almost everything.
This trip she's gonna spend two days at the grand canyon and it's all comped.
I get her monthly visa gift cards and those are $450.00 to $750.00 a month. lol
I never ask are you up or down.

I am not a good card player / gambler. Funny thing is if I play 5 card stud with friends, no money on the line, I tend to clean up. If betting real cash, I will lose regularly.

I do have some good memories of sitting in with my parents & grand parents when they played nickel/dime/quarter stakes.

When I started playing in the mid 2005 range I was lucky to be guided by a coworker. Really the low stakes tournaments at ceasers southern Indiana and over near Cincinnati the Hollywood casino. You get to play a lot of hands and the risk is minimal. I think tournaments at that time were 50-60 bucks. Things just progressed from there in amounts I would play. I have only played in one live cash game and lost my stack to big time sharks. I won’t play live cash game ever again. But anyway that’s how I cut my teeth in the poker world. Good luck

I used to be into blackjack, know the odds for every situation and move and how they change based on the subtle difference in house rules. The everyone went to a constantly shuffling shoe. It no longer mattered if you could track a favorable or non-favorable 6 deck shoe and it killed a good part of the fun.
