    Where's the bacon?
Ruger's 10/22, as suggested, is an excellent rifle. It is, however, semi-auto, and you said you wanted either a lever or a bolt.

I have no experience with levers, but I can and do highly recommend the Savage Mk II as a bolt action .22. I made my first Rifleman score with mine.

    Hope this helps!

    Blessings,
    Bill

Here's my new baby. The S&W M&P15-22! I highly recommend this for a fun .22LR.

Thanks Bill. You're right, there are a lot of votes for 10/22s and other semi-auto options. We have a 10/22, a Gsg-5, and a Walther G-22 in the family but they are not mine. I enjoy shooting those guns and even thought about the new S&W AR look alike; however, I am thinking that something in a bolt or lever might be a better fit

One of the other things I am thinking about is if I would consider one without iron sights (I don't know if I want to invest in another optic for this rifle).

Bought my 10/22 27 years ago for a whopping $79 and have shot jack rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels..............cans..........et all.
It has never failed, rarely cleaned and has endless modding possibilities if that's your thing. I keep mine stock for sentimental reasons but added a scope a few months ago.
May be the best overall gun ever made. Yes.......I said it!!!!

Just did a quick google search on the 552 (not familiar with them). Seems like an interesting option. I like the versatility of iron sights or scope. I assume they are accurate?
All I can say is that mine has never failed me, although I may have failed myself that little rifle is just as accurate as any other that I have owned. I have had a slew of 22's over the years from 10/22's to Marlin 60's, CZ's and this is the one I have kept comiing back to. :twocents:

Wow, the GSG-5 is a sweet lookin' gun, but does it shoot well? Is it reliable? The price is right in there with the MP 15-22, but the GSG-5 looks cooler than an AR-15.

someone mentioned marlin 795 earlier, That is a very nice little plinker for just over a hundred bucks. lightweight and accurate out of the box.

The Ruger 10/22 is extremely well balanced and feels like grandpa's old rifle, solid. The best thing about the 10/22, imo, is the re-sale value. These guns hold their value very, very well, like hondas....

Go to a sporting goods store and hold all of their 22 rifles, see which one feels right.

    best of luck!

For old world greatness, made in the USA by true craftsmen, the Henry .22 any version. Their lever .22s are second to none.

I had a Henry lever .22 many years ago...I ended up trading it for a Strat. I wasn't shooting much back then, but I was (and still am) playing a lot of guitar.

I've got a 10/22 and would not hesitate to recommend it. I'd also recommend a Henry lever action .22.

Thanks for your post. Now I'm going to have to go and get myself another Henry. :D
