For me it breaks down something like: 80% 7-10yds; 15% 15-25yds; 5% 50yds with the occasional pot-shot from 100yds when I stretch the corners of the envelope.

For any handgun that is used for protection I shoot out to fifty yards. Most practice is dun at 25 yards.

For hunting handguns I shoot out to one hundred yards. I split the practice between 50 and 100 yards. Mostly practice is at 100 yards.

For the handguns I use in IHMS events I shoot at 50, 100, 150 and 200 yards, the events are shot in meters. I do sometimes shoot IHMS 22 class and that is practiced at 25', 50', 75' and 100'. I like shooting handguns. Though I must admit as I get older I am shooting the rifles more.

5 to 15 yards for 90% of real practice. Usually a few at further than 15 yards, but not very many. Seems to me that in a defensive situation we'd be talking a few feet to a few yards. At >15 yards out I'd be running, not shooting. Hard to envision a scenario where I'd be shooting at bad guys from 25 yards with a pistol.

99% of my practice is 7 yards or less - beyond that in a 'real' situation I'll be headed in the other direction or looking for cover. Occasionally, I'll do some steel target shooting at 25 yards just for fun. I'd love to be able to hit something at 50+ yards, but with my skill level I'd just be wasting ammo. And ammo is too expensive and hard to get to practice enough to get more proficient!

    80% 18.5ft. to 25ft. everyday carry guns.
    20% out to maybe 30ft.
    22lr pistols, 18.5ft. to 40ft.
I can only shoot where I live, in an indoor range.

    Between corn and soybean fields.
Whatever the shortest range is at Crosley. I think it's 25 or 30 yards.

If no one else is there I'll stand in front of the booth to cut the distance in half or put some targets on cardboard boxes that are folded out and shoot down at those when they're mid range.

Depends on the handgun, and it's intended purpose.
I have 2" snubbies that I usually practice at self-defense ranges less than 20 yards.
I also have a Desert Eagle .44mag that I have shot targets out to 100 yards.

My Savage Striker (.308Winchester) is technically a handgun, but doesn't feel like one.
From the bi-pod I've shot it out to 300 yards.

    It's all relative.

I typically run a mag at 10ft, 20ft, and 30 ft with my carry guns. For fun every once and a while I will back up to 20yds and 30yds just in case the situation was to ever arise.

Longest line of sight in my house is ~60ft, so I do 10ft, 20, 30, and 50ft.(The max at the local indoor range) I plan on working out to 75ft once I get to the outdoor range.

10yds or less. With the majority being 7yds or less. I do occasionally try to pop something a little furthet out., but thats just for fun, not what I would consider practice.
