No, all the websites I found (very few) say that it is not safe to shoot due to the way the bolt is held into place plus its age. It is told that the bolt could come lose when you shoot it and hit you in the face..not good. I would love to shoot it though. My great grandfather used to hunt rabbits with it. My grandfather then got it when his father passed away and now he gave it to me for "safekeeping" in my safe.Denny347 do you shoot your marlin model 42?
