I don't buy into that crap about people who OC are saying "Don't f with me." Yes, there will be people who are frightened at the sight of a gun. There are also people who are frightened at the sight of a 6'1" 250lb+ man with a beard as well... so what. My voice is kinda loud, and I can come off as a bit abrasive to those who don't know me. I tend not to hide the way I feel. That said, the times when I OC I am likely to be the friendliest I can be. I guess If I expect people to stare, I go out of my way to make them feel as ease. Most times, it seems people don't even notice.

Some times they do. Last time I went into Walgreens to get my dad a B day card, a young lady stepped WAY off to the side as I walked down the isle. She was staring at the 1911 on my hip. I just said "Pardon me." and went about my business. On my way back through, she smiled at me and only took a normal step to get out of my way. It should be noted that many people tend to get out of my way when they notice that I have to walk with a cane. They notice that more than they notice I carry.

Looks like a few of the new guys just couldn't help but display the fact that they've never even seriously considered the topic.

I'd love to know how folks come by such a strong compunction for concealment and wonder why they can't just admit it rather than attempting to base their bias on the same old tired excuses.

    meh, we may never know.

I hadn't considered it much. Don't scare the horses and all that.
But, then i considered both sides of the debate with an open mind.
Now i mostly OC, or JFC

I am giving it from a former nongun carrying person. I understand that I need to learn more but many of you have been around guns for a long time. Don't assume that those who advocate OC are doing others a favor. I am an educator and I am looking at this forum to help teach me. If those OC people want to educate, there is a proper way to do it by reaching out to the community rather than cause some fear. I understand from their point of view and my views are changing. Most of the LTCH folks I have met have been very nice and extremely helpful. I am not debating which is right or wrong but I am trying to debunk some of the feelings of those who have carried for such a long time. Sometimes we forget how we felt. I don't fault anyone who wants to OC but don't be surprised if many people are afraid.

I am just offering you OC veterans another point of view and as I learn more my comfort level will change. I don't flame the OCers so why flame a new carrier? It's what goes through our minds. I read a such arrogance with some posters. Rather than flame help educate so we won't think that you guys are just a bunch of gun lovin' jerks. The worst thing to do is not make a new carrier feel like an idiot. Who is more experienced? You guys or someone like myself? So I ask for help not arrogance.

I offered you a thread to educate yourself. If you think you've been flamed, you need to thicken up your skin.

There are constant threads that about mythical OC issues that have no bearing in reality. I just tried to point you to it so you could educate yourself.

We just get weary of having to debunk the same old **** with every noob who has an uneducated opinion on how everyone else should carry.

    Carry open or conceal, JFC.

When I first turned 18 and received my ltch I was the same way but after the first couple months it gets old with everyone staring And being scared and every now and again a police officer asking for your license. So now I just rather conceal carry because I don't have to deal with any of that.

Interesting. I rarely get any reaction from anyone, ever. I must be doing it wrong.

You are within your legal rights to open carry. Personally, I don't want to. It draws more attention to me than I want. Chances are, someone might call the police. Then they have to respond which really wastes their time. I don't want anyone to know I'm carrying. There is also a remote chance some punk will decide he wants to try and grab it (yes, remote chance). If the punk can't see anything, there is no reason for him to try.
