People can register as whatever they want, and some do to vote against the other guy in the primary, especially closed primaries. Pennsylvania is a closed primary state.

I bet the shooter registered Republican to vote against Trump in the primary.
I was thinking he comes from a Republican family and just registered b/c dad was. Time will tell probably

I was just thinking about this and had looked up PA’s primary laws. I think you are correct. Registered as a Republican to vote for someone other than Trump. Sadly this happens more often than we would like.

Given the line of site and proximity to the stage, I really don't understand why the security perimeter didn't include that group of buildings. Sure, Monday morning quarterbacking and all, it's easy to say that now. But c'mon. That building the shooter was on is reportedly 130 yards away. In easy range of the weapon he was purportedly using. A lot of people are rightfully asking, why weren't snipers on THAT building? Or at least spotters.
That roof was reserved for the patsy.

From someone who has worked more Presidential, Vice Presidential, and Presidential Candidate security details with USSS than I can remember, you'd be surprised the amount of budget cuts they have been through. They also suffer from the same recruiting issue as all US LE is suffering from post 2020 riots. I've worked details where there were only a handful of USSS working a VP visit and they were begging for local PD help to cover the gaps...and we were short as well. It doesn't take a conspiracy for this to happen. I'm surprised it doesn't more often.
Well, it’s more important to send money to Ukraine than to spend it here keeping former presidents safe.

Not sure if it was mentioned but where were the drones?

    They are ubiquitous every where.

The reporting I've seen indicated that as a candidate, Trump doesn't have the protection assets a President has... air surveillance and Secret Service counter-sniper were both mentioned. (some reporting says the counter snipers were secret service... don't know if they were or not, but they look like local/state SWAT. types to me)

Also reported were multiple requests for additional protection details that were refused by DHS... definitely would like to see the proof/papertrail on those.
