Sadly some people will never face the reality that "monsters" live in our world and that bad things can happen anywhere be it your home, a church, the local store, or a kid's softball event.

Good reads for the guy you talked to:
    On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs
    The Parable of the Sheep

But suspect that he will never undertsand unless a life changing event occurs to him & even then he still might not want to acknolwegde it or just deny it. Some without our society will always be/think like that.
Great reads, thank you for sharing

Undoubtedly it would have done no good to remind him of all of the incidents in which a legally responsible "gun nut" didn't carry to the _______________________(fill in the blank for the event that you would NEVER need a gun but resulted in many lives lost or forever changed because a bad guy with a chip on his shoulder showed up). I can think of a few that hit somewhat close to home, Luby's Cafeteria Killeen Texas, Fort Hood Texas etc.

Why are people so blind to what's going on around them?:dunno:
Whenever I find myself thinking "I'll be fine, there's no reason to carry here" I quickly remind myself that things like that happen.
