Certainly WW2 vets are treated like rock stars over here.
I had the honor of meeting some vets (Canadian ones) last year.
They had a tour bus with a police escort.
People wanted to give them hugs and take pictures with them everywhere they went.
It's not that Parisians don't like Americans, it's that they don't like anyone who's not from Paris.
They are rude to their fellow Frenchmen from other regions too.

I have always found it interesting that the grave markers are crosses and the markers at Arlington are not.
