Trisha stands at the corner of the hall way where she can turn her head and see Thomas and turn back and see you. She is worried.. Thomas’s fever has risen to nearly 102 and pain has came back but doesn’t seem to be as bad as at first.
“Calling Mr. Purple” silence… “Calling Mr. Purple” silence.. Then ”Mr. Purple here, who do I have on the other end?” “Mr. Green” you reply, a sigh of relief from Trisha can be heard throughout the house. “Ah Mr. Green how may I help you?”

As the clock on the mantle clicked the top of the hour the conversation between Mr. Purple and Trey was interrupted by Mr. Red. Mr. Purple replied to Mr. Red’s sign in with a simple code which made sense to everyone, Mr. Purple simply said “Medical Priority Channel Override” and after a second or two Mr. Red replied, “Roger, standing by..”
After a few minutes on the radio Trey motions to you for the note pad. You ask Mary who is sitting next to Thomas to hand it to you and you walk it over to Trey.

After you finish the explanation of the symptoms, background and motion Trisha for the note pad so you can give the good doctor the latest set of vitals.
You relay the information and Mr. Purple replies, to hold on a second.

You thank the group for their patience and courtesy and excuse yourself from the remainder of the call letting Mr. Red know to take the floor. Mr. Red replies we are here if you need us. Mr. Grey responds that he will be down shortly.
You express your thanks and turn off the radio as the normal roll call begins.

You watch as Trey shuts off the radio and goes to the basement. As you meet him at the top of the stairs he simply asks, “take a look outside and see what the weather is doing.” You pause for a second, Trey is different.. He is sickly serious, and he is wearing gear you didn’t know he had..
You go to the front door, duck under the inner curtain and look outside. It is raining lightly..
As you duck under to tell Trey there is a knock at the door. “Mr. Grey?” you say and just as your about to open the door you stop, realize you need to check. After confirming it is indeed Mr. Grey you open the door.

You greet Mr. Grey at the door while he is taking off his rain slicker, Mary takes it from him and puts it on the coat rack to drip onto the boot mat it sets on. Mr. Grey extends his hand and you shake it intently. As you begin to say thank you to him he moves his other hand to sit his shotgun down leaning it against the side of the door frame. As he turns back he notices your tactical shotgun leaning just around the corner of the door, he smiles as he stand there and then expresses.. Show me what needs done and watched.
You express to him. Mary knows where the generator and fuel for it are. She nods and says she can show him as you turn to Trisha and simply state, “get your coat and boots and get some blankets to wrap Thomas up.”
As Trisha walks away you collect the rest of your equipment, rack the shotgun to make sure it’s fully loaded and put it back by the door. You walk through the house to check everything. You make one more trip to the basement and return with your AR, a patch and a black rain coat with white lettering on it.
As Mary comes back in from the garage with Mr. Grey he notices your load out and says let me help you with that and reaches for the patch. “Turn around” he states.. You turn and he puts the patch on the velcro your back and rubs it tight.. “Good idea” he says.. Less of a chance of being bothered. As he helps you don your rain coat he giggles “oh, got the coat too” he says..
You turn and look at him and he simply says, “take care of Thomas and Trisha, I will protect your two sweethearts with my life..” As Trisha walks in and gives you the nod that Thomas is ready, you tell her to get her coat on and stand by the door.
You tell Mary to go lay with Shelly and that it will be alright. She walks up to you and gives you a strong hug and whispers, thank you..” You tell her not to worry.
Mr. Grey pulls up your shotgun and checks the chamber and says he will get the door and stand watch until your gone.
Trisha stands by the door as you go and pick Thomas up. He wakes as you pick him up. You tell him “it will be ok, we are going to the hospital” to which he moans..
As you get to the door Trisha is checking outside, as she opens the door you walk outside, Mr. Grey stands on the porch as Trisha opens the back door of your truck. You wait for her to climb in and then slide Thomas in next to her. You walk around the front of the truck, nod to Mr. Grey and get in and fire up the truck.
As you pull to the end of your drive you feel Trisha’s hand on your right shoulder. She simply looks at you in the rear view mirror and says “I love you..”

You look towards the main road and turn left onto your street heading North towards the intersection. You look left to the West, then right towards the cross roads where you witnessed trouble and Mr. Koontz took out some GI’s.. You look back left, the streets are clear.
As you turn left taking the fastest way to the hospital.. It was only about 15 blocks or so down a windy road through residential neighborhoods and past the big park where the kids would ride their bikes to and play. You remember how you wanted them to be safe and Trisha was so naive about the "bad people" as the kids called them..
The kids didn't learn enough about “bad people” who like to touch children at school so Trisha let you help them learn more. You expanded on the education the kids received at school about “no no places” and to not go with anyone unless they knew the secret word or answer. You did your research on line and talked to the local PD about all of the registered offenders in the area.
Every opportunity to educate the children about where not to go by showing the houses of the offenders was taken, almost to the point where Trisha thought you were going over board.. Something she accused you of frequently.. You showed them which routes were the safe ones to get to and from the places they were allowed to ride their bikes or walk. It all was part of what you looked at before you decided on the house. Along with the schools, close to food, grocery, park, etc..
As you wind through the neighborhood you notice the lights come on. Peoples houses lighting up all at once was eerie.. As you came to the intersection of the side street that ran behind the Hospital you realize it looked as if there were no one there.. It was dark..

The entrance to the ER is almost directly opposite of your current position and the streets around the hospital aren’t all two way so you turn left, and decide to head around the east side of the hospital. It would allow you to get a look a the main parking lot and thus how busy the hospital is.
Rounding the corner at the North East corner of the hospitals property and within a couple of seconds you are met with a blinding light. A roadblock of Humvee’s and a squad of military armed with M16’s and riot shot guns..
You turn around and look at Trisha and simply say, “I will take care of this.”

The crackle of a megaphone rings out as you step out of the truck. “STEP OUT of the..” You have your hands up above your head in the standard ”look nothing in my hands” and before the GI with the mic can tell you to..
You also slowly turn to your left to show them your back as the GI starts to say “TURN AROu...” You stop to let them see the lettering on your back and then start to back up towards the road block.
As you take the second step you hear “STEP BACK towards the sound…” and about the time you hear boots running around toward you and simply turn around holding your coat open to show your tactical vest, double leg drop and your AR15 hanging off a single point sling…
“GUN!!” was all that was said before you hear nothing but “clicks” 11 to be exact, 10 M16’s and one M9..
The GI with the mic has his voice crack as he says “HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!!”
The GI closest to you says not to move.
You simply tell him “Check my ID.. It is in my admin pouch, bottom left under the mag holders, blue tab..” As two more very nervous GI’s move up to the left of you and you notice one has his M16 trained on your truck, the other you.
There are also two more GI’s moving around your right flank both with weapons trained on your truck..
