Not sure where in Indy you are but it's possible I could meet with you at Parabellum or RUSA in Greenwood to hopefully get you off on the right foot.. I would also suggest to you, or anyone else that spectating at the next EDC match at Parabellum would be a good idea. It would give you a visual of what other's are doing in the concealed carry world and what gear might work for you.

Appreciate you man for real! I’m right in Indianapolis towards the west though. When I reach my 50 I will surely shoot you a dm and we can talk so more and if possible you can help me on my journey! People like you are the reason I gave this group a shot so thank you and have a safe and blessed week and I’ll hit you up some time soon!

Yeah I’m already learning a lot and it’s only been a day. I plan to really get into the community though especially with me being young I know it’s crucial to build up a true understanding before really getting into things and possibly become a hazard. I also plan to spread the knowledge and passion with my friends so I can try to at least create a safer world around me and for them. We are DEFINITELY caught up in finding a quick one size fits all solution (myself included) so it’s nice to hear abt the different process and niches in different peoples selections. Appreciate you taking the time to respond, you do the same and also have a blessed day!

I will say I’ve been predisposed to some very dangerous situations and I consider myself lucky to be here that’s why I was thinking about what to carry first.
I'm slightly concerned that you feel it will be OKAY to continue putting yourself in dangerous situations just because you have a firearm.

Almost like you are looking for a gunfight?

I don't carry so I can seek out and put myself in dangerous situations. No thank you. Full stop.

I carry so that I can get myself and family out of dangerous situations if that were to ever arise. I ACTIVELY avoid putting myself in bad situations as a point of principle.

Make sure your head is in the right place before you choose to do this. If it is, good.

Learn the basics of gun safety, train and train some more. Try out as many options until you find the one that suits you.

I found my right edc on the 3rd try. First one was too heavy. Second one was too large. The third one was juuust right and I’ve carried it over 11 years.

    Am tempted by the P365…

I assume that means Range USA is leaving the rental business, whether they want to or not. One gun and one box of ammo, maybe. I took my daughter to Kodiak. She (I) ended up renting 6 different guns for $25, plus 2 boxes of 9mm for about $30 each. Out of pocket $85. The same under Range USA would cost you $120 for the rental, and if 6 different calibers, $180 for ammo. If Range USA doesn't want the business, why not just get out of it?
At Range USA, you can become a premium member for $49.99 ($29.99 if you are active or retired military, veteran or first responder) and shoot every rental gun in their case, get unlimited range time all month and can bring one guest for free all month. Cancel after your first month if you don't want to continue your membership.

Not sure what their official policy is on ammo, but I personally have never had to buy their ammo when I rent one of their guns. Regardless, I wouldn't pay $30 a box for range ammo. A box of Midwest 115 grain 9mm at Range USA is $16.99, and that's what they have behind the counter for their range ammo. I occasionally buy a box from them if I want to shoot more than I thought and didn't bring enough ammo.

There isn't really much to add, but I will say you'll probably have to actually carry a few different ones before you find what you like. You might find a couple that shoot really well and feel good in your hand, but don't carry in a way you like. I've got a couple that I like how they shoot but just don't feel great to carry based on size and form. Like everybody already said, its pretty much based on you so it'll be hard to find the right one just based on our opinions.

Hey! I’m pretty new to the world of firearms and just wanted to ask and see what are some of the more recommended first edc guns, so I could get some footing in what I should be researching and becoming familiar with. Thank you in advance for sharing some knowledge, take care and be safe!
We are sort of in a golden age of firearms right now. There is a vast array of handguns available from several manufacturers in all price ranges. If you let us know your price range and how you think you want to carry (belt holster, inside waistband, pocket carry), that can help narrow down the suggestions for pistols to try out.

Predisposed and actively looking are different. I’m sorry I’m from where I’m from and things happen dawg. Even in college at a major university I’ve had friends brutally jumped on the way home as well as been chased by knife wielders. I don’t party don’t do much but trouble is still around. To even say something kind of accusatory without any background knowledge is pretty low. Good people get hurt too and I don’t want to be one of them. If you cannot understand that then thank god for the life you have lived and that you haven’t had to think this way. I literally have been asking for advice and help the whole time so I’m not sure what more you could want from me man. Many 18 year olds are doing it illegally and running the streets. I’m asking the knowledgeable about public and working to get licenses and being informed. Have a good day sir and I hope it is full of blessings.

Why not provide a little more info here? No need for a dm for the info he mentioned.

I’m sorry you’re absolutely right! I just saw a few people say dming through this community is the best way to be taken seriously for purchases, as well as I’m not even able to reply to community sales right now so I thought it would be best to wait but I see he was just inquiring my bad! I would probably be looking for an IWB, compact I’m 6’1 (with baby hands though :/), and between 250-450. I don’t care too much about the ammo or anything I’ve received some great advice already today and plan to try a few out to see which suits me best. Thank you for clearing it up my man! I thought he was trying to sell me something right now but I hope you have a week full of blessings!

    Define predisposed:

Being predisposed means that one is already inclined or likely to exhibit a certain behavior or characteristic. It suggests that there is a preexisting tendency or susceptibility towards a particular outcome. Individuals who are predisposed to something may have a higher likelihood of developing certain traits or conditions.

Maybe it was a poor choice of word and my assumption mechanism took over. I would ask you to view what I said as cautionary rather than accusatory.

I understand and empathize growing up in bad and dangerous areas. I have worked my whole life to escape that and obtain and keep a better life, and it sounds like you are working towards that too! If it wasn't the constant outside threat, my father's violence toward me was a daily certainty. Bad stuff happens to everyone equally, always.

Damn this community is like 100% right every time too. I’m sorry I came a little side ways man but yeah I just meant like my environment (not necessarily by choice) has been pretty dangerous. It was absolutely a poor choice of words I had a connotation of the word that was nowhere near the denotation but thank you for getting me right I don’t want to go around spewing that nonsense! Thank you for understanding though, and I hope we can connect more it seems like you’re exactly the person I needed to find in the community! Once again sorry sir I had that voice in my head reading your quote in an upity tone and you were only trying to help, so thank you again I hope we can connect and that your week is full of joy!

Top tier 9mm micro/slim compact pistols are the Sig P365/XL/Macro, Springfield Hellcat/Hellcat Pro, Glock 43x/48 and Smith & Wesson Shield Plus.

For a new shooter wanting a small pistol that is still relatively easy to shoot, I'd recommend the Shield Plus. I've owned all of the mentioned pistols, and the Shield Plus is the softest shooting and one of the best triggers. Shoots like a bigger pistol.

My EDC is a Hellcat or Hellcat Pro, but they are a bit snappier than the Shield Plus. I like them for their size/capacity ratio and mag capacity options. I've been shooting a long time, and don't mind the slightly more snappy recoil of the Hellcat series. I like the stock sights and grip texture.

P365 is an excellent platform, but a bit pricier than the others. Especially the Macro. But the XL in particular might be perfect for IWB carry and baby hands. Good trigger, too. Recoil is not bad, but might be a bit snappy for a new shooter.

Last, in my opinion, is the Glock 43x or 48. Nothing wrong with them, very durable and reliable platform. They are just a little low on capacity for their size (10+1) without resorting to iffy aftermarket mags. But if the capacity doesn't bother you, they are a solid choice.
