I really like my handguns that I have. I only have two: a gen 4 Glock 19 and a 9mm Springfield Armory 1911. I'm kinda debating trading the 1911 for a couple of Glocks. I need second opinions on this. I am thinking either some combination of a Glock 26, a Glock 43, and a gen 3 Glock 19.

You are really operating at the extremes of the spectrum.

Kinda like asking if you should trade in your Harley for two more mopeds.

I'd recommend looking at some of the stuff in the middle. Trade or sell if you must. But there are a lot of options between those two pistols.

Only things I would consider are Glocks just for ease of using what I already have. If I get another 19, it will go in my bug out bag. The 26 would be a back up and the 43 would be used for pocket carry.

As you already have a 19, I'd probably pick up a 26. (Although I fully advocate the 1 is none, 2 is one, thing, a 26 can serve that purpose with a 19, and have the added advantage of being a bit easier to carry in some circumstances).

What are you carrying? The 19? A 19 and a 26 make a great combo, use the same holster, can you use the same mags, same platform so SOP of handling is all the same. Keep the Springer (channeling CM there), unless you absolutely want out of 1911. But, I'd say go get yourself a 26 in addition.

Oh, and I'm not sure what kind of pants you where, but I don't think I'd want to pocket carry the 43. Maybe, if you wear cargo pants all the time, and also get a pocket holster to go with it. Just not sure I could do the pocket carry thing. I really like the 43 as well, just not the pocket carry.

I carry my Glock 19 on a regular basis. The 1911 was bought as a spur of the moment deal because I wanted a 1911 for some range fun.

As for the pocket carry, I wear cargo pants ALL the time. They're pretty much required for my job and I like having the extra pocket or two when I'm not working.

Given the cargo pants, it could work. You would need a pocket holster though, just because carrying a striker fired, no safety pistol in a pocket without something covering the trigger is just asking for a problem.

I myself am quite fond of cargo shorts in the summer. I have a good five pocket system going for carrying everything :yesway: I may have to give actual cargo pants a go one of these days.

Trade/sell the 1911 if you want.
There's a ton of SA 1911's out there and if you ever wanted another one, you won't have to look too far.

Any reason you didn't try a 1911 in .45? When I first shot a 1911 in .45, I fell in love with the platform. It took me months before I wanted to shoot my 9mm handguns at the range again and even when I do, it's more to shoot less expensive ammo than anything else. I had to get into customized CZ's before 9mm felt worth shooting again...lol!

Same thing happened to my son when he was here over the summer visiting. He shot a couple of my 9mm handguns and then I had him shoot one of my 1911's (all are .45). He finished the mag and turned around with a huge smile on his face and informed me he didn't want to shoot any of the other guns again, just the 1911's. We went to the range 5 more times while he was visiting me and he didn't touch the 9mm handguns again. Buddy of mine at the range last weekend was the same way. He'd never fired a .45 before and was extremely happy when I let him shoot mine. He loved it, but is now unhappy with me because he needs to buy another gun, which needs expensive ammo :):

You probably already have, but if not, make sure you shoot some 1911's in .45. Otherwise, whatever. If you want more Glocks, buy more Glocks. :dunno:

I bought a 9mm just to keep the same caliber. I prefer to keep one caliber. I didn't shoot the 1911 well at all, but I wanted one. So I bought a 9mm to shoot with and get used to the platform before I decided to upgrade.

My vote is for a G26 or another gen4 G19. I don't see the advantage of the gen3 G19 or the 1911. With that said, I have zero experience with the 9mm 1911. Is there any discernible reliability difference between a 45 1911 and a 9mm 1911?

Sorry but 1911A1's are like perfect semi-auto pistols...

    but everyone to their own...
