This is a perfect reason to never allow a Democrat, Socialist, Progressive or Gary Johnson President

^This! They are professionals as incrementalism. We are always just reacting, it seems. We are sometimes an all or nothing crowd, my way or the highway, and they are very patient, not letting the perfectly bad get in the way of the bad.

When the next Democrat president declares a national emergency on gun violence, it will take place shortly after a horrific mass shooting that shakes this country to the core. The scale of something like Sandy Hook or the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay attack. They won't let the crisis go to waste.

It won't immediately result in confiscation. Its announcement will be prefaced with words of the effect "I believe in the Second Amendment." Then the hammer will fall. The goal of a national emergency will be to use the Federal government's commerce regulation powers to stifle the sale and purchase of firearms. The NICS system might be shut down while it undergoes "revision", so new firearms cannot be purchased. At best, mandatory arbitrary waiting periods will be established when you want to buy from an FFL.

The business consequences will be enormous. They will bankrupt your local gun store. They may pour billions of dollars into setting up sting operations on sites like this trying to entrap people into illegal transfers. They will block the importation of parts. Say goodbye to Glocks, Sigs, or Eastern European AK's. Under a national emergency they can block the sale of ammunition, or at least impose strict rules that block the supply chain causing a shortage.

It will be a situation very similar to California's, where to be a gun owner you have to jump through multiple hoops and the goal post is always shifting. What you own today becomes illegal tomorrow. Certain actions will have seemingly unintended consequences - much like the infamous roster which prevents Californians from buying any new models of pistols that have been manufactured in recent years.

If a national emergency is declared against gun violence, imagine all the shady stuff Obama did on steroids. The NRA will go nuts, filing a flurry of lawsuits. But by the time it gets battled in court the damage will already be done.

Thanks for opening Pandora's Box, Trump.

Which one of the dems running for president would NOT use ANY means available to accomplish their agenda, regardless of using Trump for the excuse? :dunno:

Obama didn't do this, and I read on INGO that he was the most anti-American and anti-Second Amendment president in history.

Every President from here to the end of life will be "the worst for *cause*". Because people are bored. They like conflict. They like feeling like they're fighting against/for something. Even when that thing is probably not a threat to them.

The Right thought Obama would knock on their door and take all the guns.
The Left thinks Trump will put them in camps and kill all "the gays" or something.

    It's just LARPing for entertainment.

And I would argue that the outsider is using the insiders laws and ways, that most true conservatives believe unconstitutional, against them.

This fallacy that if one side is pure and did not do something, the other side will not think of it and use it is silly.

    MM

Maybe you could more accurately represent what people are actually saying. Wrapping it up into a nifty sound bite then attacking it is silly.

So. The insiders laws and ways. Which "national emergencies" were used by a president to get around a congress which would not give him what he wanted? We're ratcheting unconstitutional methods until it just goes out of style.

I guess I REALLY have to hope like hell they don't get elected now that Trump has opened the national emergency means. Heath care is a national emergency. Gun violence is a national emergency. Racism is a national emergency. Income inequality is a national emergency. The gender pay gap is a national emergency. Michelle Obama's bulge is a national emergency. :n00b:

Need some humor up in here.

    In the country, hopefully.

I would argue that if D's had the presidency now that we would still have the house, but beyond that we (2A people) would be worked up in a total frenzy. Since Trump's election, everyone has just relaxed and is just now realizing that this might not end well, except his die hard supporters, who don't see it that way (4d chess).
Where we have really failed IMO is that, while we could have done well on defense under a D president, we have utterly failed on offense when we had an opportunity. And by 'we' I mean the servants formerly known as RINO's.

I tweeted this in February, 2015. Holds true no matter who's in office:

One pen in the hands of a lawless President is far more dangerous than 300 million firearms in the hands of law-abiding Americans.

This is true, as much as the TDS crowd wants you to think otherwise. :twocents:

Yes. If Obama thought he could do it, he'd have done it. I have basically said this. Guns. Cap and trade. Whatever. Now that Trump has given them cover, don't think they won't try.

BTW, it's not the people with critical thinking skills that have TDS. It goes both ways. There's Trump Derangement Syndrome, and there's Trump Delusions Syndrome. Both TDS. The former are the bat **** crazy people who think everything he does is evil and wrong and stupid. Truth is, sometimes he's right. Sometimes what he does is pretty smart. And he does a lot of good things. The latter, of course, are the people so fiercely loyal to Trump that they're incapable of objective critical thinking. The truth about that is, sometimes he's wrong. Sometimes Sometimes he's dumb as a bag of ****. And sometimes he does bad things.

Under Obama the self-defense industry experienced explosive growth, and gun owners actually gained ground in the federal legislative and judicial arenas.

Under two years of your guy we have "Take the guns first", and a signed ban on a formerly legal accessory...the first of its type since Bill Clinton was president.

You actually cared about the second amendment...when there was a Democrat in the Oval Office. Trump and the Republicans have pretty much removed any incentive I previously had to vote for them. I support Republicans when they defend the Bill of Rights, and when they behave responsibly with my money. Trump's Republican party has thoroughly proven they care about neither of those things.

Maybe you'll care about authoritarians and your rights again once President Booker and VP Harris take office.

ggnhnnn...I barfed a little just typing that bit.

Well, 100% of the spies doing recon in Hawaii were indeed Japanese. Call it racial profiling but that was the correct group to go after. I'll also add that most all of the people living in Hawaii were not Americans other than American visitors and military.
Your 100% incorrect, it would help if you read your history before you make a statement like that. The majority of the population of the Hawaiian island were Americans. if you were referring to the Japanese-Americans, in Hawaii, they weren't sent to interment camps. Just in case you weren't aware of it: Many Hawaiians served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a U.S. Army infantry regiment. The regiment was composed almost entirely of American soldiers of Japanese ancestry. The regiment fought primarily in Italy, southern France and Germany. The 442nd Regiment was the most decorated unit for its size and length of service in American history. Its 4,000 members had to be replaced nearly 2.5 times due to casualties. In total, about 14,000 men served, earning 9,486 Purple Hearts. The unit was awarded eight Presidential Unit Citations (five in one month). Twenty-one of its members, including Hawaii U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, were awarded Medals of Honor. Its motto was "Go for Broke".[SUP][144][/SUP]
How's that for an ethnic group that were "suspected" of being enemy sympathizers?
