That's a long, long list- "Ben Hur" is right at the top.

    "Walking Tall"
    "The Longest Yard"
    "Fame"
    "The Pink Panther"
    "Psycho"

All of these were at least good movies, or better, the first time around. Remakes were unnecessary...and bad.

A remake that was great even though the original probably didn't need to be remade? "True Grit"

Once weaver was done it should of ended there as well. The crossovers I thought were junk. PG-13 instead of R just to win a teen audience.

Death Race 2000. They should have left that alone. Gone in 60 Seconds too.

Hopefully they never remake Big Ass Spider.

Really, no movie should be considered for remake unless the original had promise but the production was so flawed that the promise was betrayed.

For those who live under rocks:

Author of Ben Hur (yes, it was a novel) was a Hoosier named Lew Wallace. General Lew Wallace. Born in Brooksville - but lived out most of his post-career years in Crawfordsville, IN. He wrote most of his works in Crawfordsville, actually.

Home - General Lew Wallace Study & Museum

Really cool place if you have a chance to visit.

Me and the Mrs. Watched the remake of Carrie last night, it sucked. Right after they showed the original. It's amazing how with limited special effect the original was so much scarier.
And yes, True Grit or any John Wayne movie should never be remade.

Keep in mind that US box office accounts for only about 30-35% of a movie's gross; the rest is overseas viewers, especially Asia. They seem to love the SFX, not the dialog or plot, so you're pretty much guaranteed to make a profit with an FX-heavy remake than with an unproven story.

The independent filmmakers still put out good stuff, so give your money to the little guys!
