Was the Certified Applicator for a central indiana city for many years, Mosquito control was part of my job! If you do not want them at your house go to lowe's or Wallyworld and buy a couple of real big/nice bug zappers. And then give them to a neighbor as a ? present with a big smile! Guess who will get the skeeters then! This info came from a professor at Purdue University Entomology dept where I studied. This works!

Ok, Spasmo bought me a Thermocell today. I'm a little hesitant to test it out as failure will result in more bites. It's like testing your shark-proof wetsuit by swimming with live sharks. :):

+1 on the Thermocell...I recently added the optional $10 holster for convenience...

It's a great tool in the fight against the evil mosquito hordes...

Spray to prevent , then when bitten a paste of baking soda and epsom salts . Take a Benydryl to relive the itch .

I came back from an evening trip to the range last Tuesday covered in bites. I jumped in the hot tub for about 45 minutes, and that helped a lot. Maybe a pool would be just as effective, although we keep the chlorine level in the tub pretty high so that may be what killed the itch.

3 things that work for me.

    1. do not eats bananas if going outside. there is a chemical in them that attracts mosquitoes.

    2. try something like sting-eaze that has benzo/lido cane to numb the area.

    3. I have not been bitten in almost ten years, the trick? leukemia! if you can handle the fact that this fool proof treatment might kill you then your golden. apparently they they don't like blood that is full of chemo.(one of the drugs is a derivative of mustard gas)

    I'll pass on #3. I pray you're getting better!

We got the crap bitten out of us a few weeks ago outside of Michigan City. Skeeters love fresh white flesh, slightly tan and dipped in lake water.

When I don't have anything else, I've dabbed a little antiperspirant on mosquito bites and it's helped relieve the itch and swelling. IIRC it's an old hiker's trick - the aluminum tetro-something in antiperspirants is what helps.

Do you think they would notice if I brought the grizzly home with me?

Now that July 4th camping is over with, I'm covered with mosquito bites, as per usual. I don't know what it is about me, but not only do mosquitoes love to feast on me, but I'm apparently highly allergic to their saliva. If a mosquito even LOOKS at me, I'll get an annoyingly-itchy spot that stays for two weeks.

So far, I've found NOTHING that comes even close to reducing the itch or "healing" the bite faster. Calamine, Benadryl, hydrocortisone cream, etc. do little or nothing beyond (possibly) a placebo effect. Any effect they do have fades after an hour or so. What effective home remedies do you use against mosquito bites?
prevention! The mosquito senses fear much like a dog, be ye fearless!

So did the Thermocell work Scutter??????

I have heard that eating sulfur works....it used to be an old military trick where they would eat match sticks....which I would not recommend.

    • 2 tsp. sulfur (found in pharmacy section at Wal-mart)
    • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
    • 1 pt. honey
You mix all of the ingredients. Store in a pint jar. Take one tsp. everyday for 2 weeks
