Has anybody built a Mosin Nagant scout rifle? I'm in the process, I have cut the barrel down to 18", it's currently at a friends house in a lathe, we're turning down the muzzle to accept an M1 front sight and threading it for a flash suppressor or possibly a break. Just wondering if any one else has done this.

Most everything that can be done to a mosin, has been done, lotsa times. Big "if" is scope mounting; 91/30's have a dovetail under the rear sight, seems to be the only reliable mount system. There are a lot of websites devoted to these old warhorses, see Soviet Steel, or something to that effect, right here on ingo !

Brass stacker mounts are very nice I had one with a Red dot worked very well. Brass stacker also makes a front sight replacement after you cut down the barrel. I was looking at them this morning, thinking about doing a scout thing with my type 53.

I mounted a scout scope on my M38 - no barrel cutting necessary. I used the S&K mount which attaches to the rear sight base and is very solid. (Mosin on bottom. Used the same setup on my Yugo M48A Mauser too.)
