because non-violent drug users don't need to be thrown in prision. they need rehab to get themselves clean. If we're going to spending more on a prisoner than a kid in school why not get the non-violent drug users clean and save the prison space for people that actually need to be in there such as child rapists.

Your trollish ignorance is showing again. Rehab is the only thing that's been shown to work in getting people to stop. 12 step programs and the like are proven winners. That's why countries like Portugal can get away with decriminalising drugs and have their numbers go way down. Prison doesn't stop drug abuse. How can it when prisoners can score dope inside? It only cost us about 65k a year,to house a "criminal" drug user. I guess that's a pretty good return on our investment. send them in as a young idiot druggie. spend about a quarter of a million dollars on them. let them hook up with some REAL criminals in the prison system. then let them come back into society with no rehabilitation at all..of course unless you consider the rehabilitation that they recieve from REAL criminals. then they come out with a chip on their shoulder. and become a REAL criminal also.

+1 what % of people who actually start a 12 step program complete it? Its more like 38k a year for jail.....if we made jail like hell it would be much cheaper. People would act right out of fear alone=less people locked up.

again another stupid comment. there is such thing in the bill or rights that says no cruel or unusual punishment. people are still people and deserve basic human rights. what are your ideas for hell? my idea of hell without using any cruel and unusual punishment is 23 hour a day lock down. 1 hour to exercise and that is it.

23 hours lock down, 1 hour out a day...bread water and one multi vitimin to keep you alive. No cable tv...no college....no internet......
