Looking into the possibility of a moderately priced .40 (read under $400)
    Single or double stack.

Bersa (double or single), Sigma, Tuarus, or others?

    Which is best and why?

I have a Sigma .40 and I am pretty happy with it. The only thing is the trigger pull is a little long. For mine I only payed like 320 and got two factory 14rd mags and got the rebate for two 15rd mags.

I think someone on here is selling a Kahr CW-40...

They're "all day" carry guns, light and slim.

Assuming it feels like my wife's CW9, this would be a good choice if you don't mind the somewhat-limited capacity of a single-stack. Trigger is lo-o-o-o-ong, but extremely smooth. Kahr finally has night sights available for the CW series now, too.

I got the Taurus pt140 and am very happy with it. The trigger is much better than the sigma. If you go to the 1500 in a couple of weeks you can usually find them for about 360 new.

For a general shooter/house/car gun, consider a police trade-in S&W. Another batch of Atlanta PD 4003TSWs and some 4046s have recently hit the market, and there's still a bunch of SW99s out there. All .40s, and all under $400.

I owned a sigma and the trigger pull was beyond what I could deal with, The Taurus line of firearms has some pretty nice models, a friend of mine has several different models that serve well, He also has an FN 40 and that was in the 400 range and has given very good service

If you are set on a .40, what about a 2nd Gen Glock 22/23? These can be found for $350 or so...

I bought a new Sigma and took it out once before I sold it and bought my XD. The Sigma went bang every time it should of, but just didn't feel good to me.

I've gotta say that the only thing that has me buying a Sigma is my interest in doing trigger work on it - although I'm not afraid of it - i learned to shoot with a HiPoint.

Thanks folks. Any more advice out there?

I have heard very good things about the Bersa .40 from 2 owners. One is a range master at Roush. He cursed it up and down for being from Argentina and then proceeds to says it's a great personal defense gun and he carries one himself when he cc's. Says he can't make ot jam...

I don't own a Bersa .40, but do have two Bersa 9s and my son has a Bersa 45UC, so we've got the .40 bracketed a bit. I've found the Bersa's to be very good pistols and have not had a bit of trouble with any of them. The mags can be expensive though and finding a good off the shelf holster can be tough but they are good guns that are worth considering. As for the thickness, my son's 45UC grip is not much thicker than the grip on my 1911 (with Pachmyr wraparound grips). It's not thin by any stretch, but could be worse. The other downside to a Bersa .40 is that they are pretty tough to find. I don't think I've actually seen a Bersa 40, UC or HC, at any of the LGS I frequent.

As with any pistol, whether it's for you depends on a lot of things. The ones I have are reliable and are worth taking a look at.

    Thanks,

were I you, I'd keep be patient and keep looking.

You can find good Glocks/XD's/M&P's for that price range here in the forums or even at some of the local shops.

Heard about a GREAT deal on a M&P40 at Beech Grove Firearms recently.
