I bought a few myself. Also got into a group buy at work. 39 of us all threw in $5 gave us 195 chances. I know its a long shot, but you can't win if you don't play.

I was going to buy $25 in tickets, but didn't realize they wouldn't take my debit card. I had $5 in my wallet, so that is what I bought. The more I thought about it over the past few things, I'm going to buy a few a week now. I'm not ever going to win big, but who knows? An extra $500 wouldn't be bad either.

If I win, I would probably give a few hundred thousand to about 15 people, then disappear for a long, long time.

Technically it's a good bet because it will pay about 2:1 on the odds. When it is at $30mil it pays like 1:10 against the odds and a terrible wager. Any gamblers want to refine and expand my comments?

The lottery, in all its forms, is one of the most shameful scams perpetuated upon the uneducated by our government in my lifetime. Sadly, it is targeted at those who can least afford to be scammed. Try really hard to understand that you are literally taking money out of your wallet and ripping it up and throwing it into the wind. Don't be a tool.

Your odds of matching the winning numbers do not change with the amount of the jackpot or with the number of players. If you were the only one who played, or if everyone on Earth played, your odds of matching the numbers is exactly the same. I believe it is about 1 in 176 million. The lottery is for the weak-minded. Don't tattoo your forehead by participating.
