I like the heavier bullets for my 44 Ruger. Then again, I did buy it for hunting deer and bear. Rugers also handle hotter loads very well. However, loading too light of a charge can cause the pressure inside the case to push upwards and damage the Ruger. Two of my friends did that instead of just using 44 specials.
Too light may cause "detonation" (a theory of what causes some guns to go kaboom, not easily reproduced in testing though).
We made some super light loads way back, I'm talking ridiculously light. Used a filler due to small powder charge, no issues. They hit way high
