I thought if I laughed it would trick dad into thinking it didn’t hurt and was amusing to me, and he would give up.

It didn’t work. He didn’t give up. It did hurt.

    Lesson learned.

I once shoved folded tube socks down the back of my pants to give me some extra "padding".

You think getting your ass beat hurts? Try getting the backs of your thighs beat.

    Only tried that once.

    Running, made it worse.
    Flinching, made it worse.
    Lying, made it worse.

There is a long story behind the short story.... I was blessed to grow up in my home and not at a "day-care" or with a "baby-sitter".

As shocking as it may seem, I sometimes got into trouble and would get "corrected" by Mom.

On the days that required more "correcting" from Mom than should be needed, I got to deal with Dad.

He would hear out "my side of the story", but I learned he never had much patience for excuses and rationalizations.

One time I recall well was when he pulled off his belt and I pleaded Mom had already punished me.

Dad said Mom punished me for what I had done then....his punishment was for causing trouble for Mom. I learned a different perspective from that day.

I sometimes learned the hard way, but being further down the road I am so thankful I had a good Mom and a good Dad.

And why did they sometimes say, " this hurts me more than it's gonns hurt you."

I learned my lesson about that one when I said " I doubt that."

I remember seeing that one (swilks). Don't remember any interaction with him though.
I had a few interactions (pre-mod days) with him, never had any issues. Then again, I had a few good interactions with a member who imploded and went out in a blaze of glory. You just never know around here.
