... Far be it from me to question why some things are bannable offenses, and others aren't... but hey, I guess what happens happens.

EVERYONE was previously warned...THREE DAMNED TIMES!!!

When I "swing the hammer" it is almost never a permanent ban, and it is also almost never for just one individual post.

When a user gets a temp-ban from one of us it is either because of a clearly-defined "over-the-top" meltdown, or because of a long series of posts that all cross the line...but not so bad that we want to ban them for any one of those posts. I call this "circling the drain". Users that are "circling the drain" are only a tiny little "tip" from going over the edge at any given time...thing is, most of these users operate so closely to the edge for so long they lose sight of tipping point themselves and become emboldened to continue acting out.

The temp ban serves as a potent reminder to those users (and everyone else) that we all have to watch where we step...we may be closer to the drain than we thought. The Trump threads mean there are a lot more users "circling the drain" than we usually see, and reminders are becoming ever more necessary.

I have said this before: INGO is a discussion forum, not a gymnasium: we come here to for debate, not pugilism.

Agreed, and I'm not even you.

I wish we'd maybe not eulogize established members that get a temp ban. Lot of "I knew X when they were alive... and we were really cool" soap-boxing goes on, and it's sort of silly when they'll be back in 3 or so days.

There are forum rules, and sometimes we slip outside them. It's not a huge deal.

Wait I just thought of something. Did we eulogize you when you got temp shootered? Hmm. I'm not sure. Anyone remember?

If not, we can test this. Say something that gets you shootered and we'll see if we feel compelled to eulogize you.

I don't think this thread was around back then.

I do recall it was a group of us that went, though. It was before Religion was opened up as a topic, and a lot of us made some anti-Islam comments.

Edit: It was before this thread was made. I think comments were made in a new thread that specifically talked about the mass ban, if I remember correctly. Or I could be remembering it all wrong, dunno.

There were a handful of banned member threads. They were all closed pretty quickly. This is the only one they have allowed to last.

Ah well. Probably was then.

I think I've learned my lesson. It's actually quite easy to participate here and not get banned.

1. Don't feed the trolls.
2. Ignore the obsessive people that harass every post you make.
3. No personal insults.
4. No porn.

And rules I personally broke, and learned from:

5. Don't post entire news articles, even if the source blows.
6. Don't embed graphic content (whoops... I definitely deserved that ban. It was perma, too... and I'm glad that they showed mercy with that one.)

INGO's fun. Best not take it too seriously. So much more to life.
