    Done and here's my letter!

    Mr. Donnelly,

As a lifetime Hoosier I request for you to stand tall and support our 2nd amendment rights. Gun bans, magazine restrictions, ammo bans, micro stamping does not work.

There was a magazine ban back when the incident occurred at Columbine. This is proof magazine bans do not work.

We as a nation have a mental health problem and it's people with mental health issues pulling the triggers with these weapons.

Firearm purchases are at an all time high while violent crime/murder is at an all time low. Sources from the FBI website.

It's takes law abiding good guys with guns to protect loved ones and others nearby from violent monsters and the crazies we have in our society today.

I respectfully urge for you to not support any of the recent proposals.

    Best regards,

    Legba

    My email to the Senator...

    Dear Senator Donnelly,

I would like to know your stance on the assault weapons ban that Senator Feinstein is trying to push on the law abiding gun owners of this country. Are you for it or against it?

    Thank you,
    Jason

I sent a letter and email about two weeks ago. Attempted to send another email through his site just now, but the email form is down on his site.

    Down the road a piece...
    Senator Donnelly,

By definition, only law abiding citizens obey the law. Criminals do not. Enacting more laws that restrict the rights of law abiding citizens will not cause criminals to begin obeying laws. The only effect that new laws will have will be to criminalize lawful gun owners.

Please cast your vote against new firearm laws. Cast your vote to protect the rights of law abiding citizens. Cast your vote for freedom and for the protection of the 2nd amendment. Please do not infringe on our rights!!

    This is what I sent.
    Dear Senator Donnelly,
You have been elected by the people of the great state of Indiana to represent us in the United States Senate. Congratulations. Remember your oath to defend and uphold the Constitution. The overwhelming majority of your constituents are ardent second amendment supporters. If you wish to retain their support I urge you to vote against any proposal that would further infringe on our second amendment rights. Voting lockstep with the democratic party on this issue or compromising on the details will doom you politically. Laws and bans only affect the law abiding citizens. Criminals by the very definition will ignore any restrictions. The second amendment was written as a last resort to protect U.S. citizens from an authoritarian tyranny. If you would be faithful to God and country, fully support our constitutional, God given rights.
    Thank you for your time,
    Mark A. Rhoads

Thought I'd share the letter I sent to Joe Donnelly. Any feedback is welcome.

    Senator Donnelly,

As your constituent, I strongly urge you to show. Support for the Second Ammendment of the US and Indiana by opposing any attempt at banning so-called assault weapons as well as "high capacity" magazines.

There is nothing about an "assault rifle" that is any more dangerous than any other civilian rifle out there. An adjustable stock and pistol grip only makes it so everyone regardless of stature can safely and comfortably handle the rifle. Surely this can't be a bad thing. Also, it's a total fallacy to suggest a bayonet holder makes the rifle any more dangerous. When was he last time you heard about a drive-by bayoneting? A flash suppressor only helps to assist with recoil and prevent night vision blindness - again, it's a safety thing.

That leaves us with detachable magazines. Allowing a 30 or 10 round magazine limit still uses a detachable magazine. Thus, the aspect of a detachable magazine on its own accord does not make the rifle any more or less dangerous.

This finally leaves us with the debate on magazine capacity. Excluding sporting purposes, a gun should never be used until it is needed, as determined by the many, many gun laws. However, once the criteria has been met to justify use of any firearm, you NEED it until you no longer need it. Which means putting an arbitrary limit on how much it can be used regardless of the current situation is a huge detriment to the safety of the lawful user who is in NEED of a firearm to defend themselves or others. See the recent example of the Georgia mother who ran out of bullets and still the criminal did not die - thankfully he chose to flee rather than continue his aggression. What if there were more than one criminal, as is common?

None of the above will prevent another horrific mass shooting tragedy. None of the above will prevent gang violence.

I truly hope that you will use logic, and not emotion, when discussing any legislation, but especially in the upcoming debates on gun control.

    Respectfully,
    Brian

Well, this is Donnelly's latest post on his facebook page:

“I am a strong supporter of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. My work will not be done until every Hoosier who wants a job has a job, and the Keystone XL pipeline means jobs for American families and energy security for our country. The concerns President Obama cited when he originally denied a permit for the Keystone pipeline have been met, and he should allow the project to move forward.” – Sen. Joe Donnelly

Pleasantly surprising that he'd take this tone right out of the gate. But holy crap there's a ton of comments opposing this on his site. Facebook being an open platform, my guess is every global warming carbon eraser from sea to shining sea is posting on his page (many claiming to be Hoosiers).

I posted this word of support with a link to a Huffington Post article... figured it'd get read more by the anti-energy crowd than something from forbes or IBD

"Way to go Joe! Hoosiers and Americans need jobs and the energy sector is one industry that can reinvigorate the economy plus move us towards energy independence. There is a reason that North Dakota's unemployment rate is 3.2%; ENERGY. Please remind the President and VP about their commitment to a three letter word (J-O-B-S according to Mr. Biden) and tell em to make good on that rather than pushing gun control down the throats of law abiding Americans. Thanks for starting off your Senate career right Sir."
