What caliber? Some old guns don't have a serial number, be careful, in an old .38 S&W a 9mm cartridge will fit....DO NOT SHOOT A 9mm in an old .38 S&W break top, unless you are not wanting to keep your hands, and eyes, and other body parts...

Like MrSmitty said guns that old sometimes dont have serial numbers. If that gun is new to you be sure to check (or have someone check) the lockup and timing if you are planning to shoot it.

meant to add. where's serial number on this gun. trying to figure date on it. thx
If it has a serial number it will be under the grips. I have one made in 1902 IIRC different model 38 short. It has no number.

    Edit:
It might be younger than 1902. I'm trying to remember. It's been a long time since it's been out of the safe.
Not worth much, but I like it.

The serial was usually on the bottom of the butt. Some under the grips.

It is a S&W copy which was made by US Revolver as well.

You will have no luck finding an exact date of build. You have to go off the name and address of the company.

The serial number will be letters not numerical. They use "F I T C H B U R G" with F=1, I=2, T=3, C=4 and so on. They had prefixes also but the best way to age it is off the name and address. Google it and all will be explained...
