Russian military may be bad asses when it comes to hand to hand combat but they are severaly lacking in riflemanship. I had a coworker that was a Soviet paratrooper before the collapse and we shot together once. He liked my Kalashnikov but was disappointed it wasn't full auto.

Point being 1,000 enemy troops would not last long against a handful of American Riflemen.

    Amen.

I was overhearing to guys talking today in Wally world. they were talking about Camp Atterbury. Hearing that it has a 1,000 + Russian troops stationed there. These troops was brought in to confiscate firearms from Americans since our troops will not disarm our own.

I was wondering if any of this is true.

It's an interesting idea but there are a couple of issues here:

Firstly, the use of US Military forces (National Guard and Coast Guard excepted) against US citizens on US soil is prohibited. US citizens in the US are under the jurisdiction of law enforcement agencies, not the military. So any use of the Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force would be illegal. The National Guard is under the control of the Governor of the state they are deployed in and can, under certain circumstances, be called to take action against citizens. But National Guard does not get deployed by the President. The Coast Guard does have LE authority and so could indeed be used for that purpose.

Secondly, using foreign soldiers (i.e. mercenaries) who have NO law enforcement authority in the US would almost certainly be a serious crime by whoever cooked up a scheme like that. I would not be surprised if there is some federal law already on the books that prohibits this.

Now I don't think this rumor is true at all, and if it were the area around the camp there would be "buzzing" for sure.

But if it did happen, I wonder how the lawfully responsible LE agencies in Indiana would react to this? I'm pretty sure that we might see some police agencies in socialist cities like Ft. Wayne, South Bend, and NWI join in. What about the ISP? What about County Sheriffs and their deputies? What about the Indiana National Guard?

I think there would be a shootout between these various factions before they ever got around to doing anything about the rest of us.

I have been down at Camp Atterbury all week and have not seen any Russians yet.

You need to wear the special glasses. Not the unicorn ones.

OP if you really believed what you hear, I have a secluded remote Caribbean Island that is so small and invisible that you can't see it on radar or satellite and can only get to it by a subterranean tunnel that had been dug from there to my back yard.

I'll sell it to you for 567 Trillion dollars, the naked native girls are not yours to keep, they are not part of the deal, but I will let you keep the crazy little midget that keeps running out to the dock and blubbering something about "The Plane, The Plane" even when there's not a cloud in the sky.
    ****snip****

Is the bidding open to everyone? I really need to get away. If you really wanna sell it you're gonna have to come down in price, or include the native girls.

I'm sorry but you are incorrect as far as the National Guard is concerned.
The official National Guard website makes this statement; “In 1933 TheNational Guard Mobilization Act made the National Guard of the United States a component of the Army at all times, which could be ordered into active federal service by the President whenever Congress declared a national emergency.

Sorry, but they are not Russians in the new Red Dawn movie, they changed to Chinese, then plot to changed to be from North Korea.
    :)

There are 1000 North Korean troops at Atterbury preparing to disarm us? I better spread the word!

I was interested to learn that Atterbury is one of the places used for SEAL sniper training. A coworker's son is graduating from BUD/S next week and he relayed that me. I guess Crane manufactures a lot of their experimental equipment as well . . .

That at least is true. The SEALs have been conducting a sniper school since at least the early 90s. I know that because I flew several training insertion missions in support of their school in the early 90s (92, or 93, IIRC). They had a (semi)permanent compound at the south end of the cantonment area the last time I was there in 2010.

On the other hand, 1000 Russian troops would be hard pressed to overcome the TWO infantry brigades organic to the Indiana Army National Guard.

I can't believe this thread has made it this far. It isn't even full of people looking to get their count up to run and buy something off the classifieds before the Russians come to take it away. That is seriously what I thought was happening for 6 pages till I looked at them. Wow. And I have just contributed, so what does that say about me? Just call Sarah Palin to tell the russians to get back on their side - snl reference anyone?

    Step 1. Win lottery.
    Step 2. Order troops.
Step 3. Take over east side of Indy and put up a wall.

    Seriously,
Food for thought. What if a foreign govt. paid to put a military base on our soil?! Just like we do elsewhere in the world (with our tax dollars)!

It's absolutely true. My brother in law lives in Moscow now as a spy with CIA. He said he saw the troops board a plane that had a sign, "Atterbury or bust" (in Russian, of course).

I've been down at Atterbury all week and it's business as usual. Business as usual does not include Russian troops on post.

I did watch some fellers jumping out of a C130 today which was interesting.

Did it have a big Red Star on the tail like this one?

It was flying over my house once upon a time, and I happened to take a picture of it.

Walmart rumors, shheeeeot. You'd have to be 3 generations inbred to believe something over heard at walmart.
