Is the ban going to happen?

How many people in this thread have written, or even emailed, their Senators and member of the House?

If you don't send letters, not just NOW, but again in January, and again in February, then you are helping this ban to happen.

If you are friends with other gun owners and you don't get them to write letters (volunteer to write their letters for them!) then you are allowing this ban to happen.

If you are not a member of the NRA and/or the GOA (both is better) then you are part of the problem and helping this ban to get enacted.

I have sent my letters but in the end my belief is there will be a ban no matter what. President Obama stated yesterday on Meet The Press he supports any gun control legislation that is put in front of him in January. If this is not stopped at Feinstein it is going to happen and I don't see her backing off.:twocents:

Might want to include Second Amendment Foundation Online as well. Another good one that can always use members or donations, Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership.

Part of getting friends involved in firearms has been giving them as much information as I can about GOA, SAF, and http://www.nationalgunrights.org/. I don't try to dissuade them from joining the NRA, it just isn't for me.

    Agreed on getting others involved.

I do push the NRA for one simple reason. The NRA is the 800# gorilla in the room. All the other organizations combined carry far less weight and have far less influence than the NRA. I'm a big fan of the GOA, the CCRKBA and to a lesser extent the SAF. I'm a former member of the JFPO, they are pretty shrill and on the fringe.

But the NRA, love them or not, carries the real influence in Washington and in each individual state. No other organization has the membership, ground troops, or organization that is even close to what the NRA has.

So while many complain about the NRA, the fact is they are still the most influential game and we should all be members ... then go join one of the other groups if you want another take on things but realize it carries far less influence.

Agreed. Pre-written post cards, from the GOA, NRA or SAF are pretty worthless.

Send emails and snail mail letters. NOT "form letters" and NOT pre-printed post cards.

Any effort is good. But I agree emails and especially snail mail will get a lot more attention. Just my :twocents:

But dont stop there. Be active on Facebook. Say what you will about FB it has gotten national media attention for anti's. A lot of people read FB, be heard.

I think she will push for the most she can get. yet in the end...all this has to pass the Republican controlled house. In the end I don't see any substantial ban getting through the house. There will be a big push and a media campaign this summer to get something done. Obama realizes he has only a short window of time to get this through. Really if he can't get it done in the next year there is no way. Because we will then be looking at the midterm elections.

At this point I want to believe it's all smoke and mirrors to distract the people away from the failure of the State Department, the failure to compromise on the budget talks, poor economic out look for 2013, ect. You know, give the people something else to think about.

I also noticed that the media is covering the "fiscal cliff" the most these days and Sandy Hook is slowly fading to the back pages but then on Sunday Obama brings up gun control as a top priority in the first year of his 2nd term. Well now its back to gun control and and less about the "fiscal cliff" Smoke & mirrors.

Somehow I don't think you can be really serious about any legislation when you put Joe Biden in charge of championing a Dianne Fienstien crafted bill.

No I don't think we will see any meaningful gun control measures until after the 2014 elections. The unbending, non-compromising position of Obama on the budget talks, (the Dems don't want to avert the cliff, they are banking on it) so they can blame the Republicans and the evil rich people for the economic misery they are going to unleash on the people. They and betting that gun control will not pass this year and another mass shooting or 2 will occur which they can again blame on the Republicans for failure to ban those "evil black guns". So really it's all about the 2014 election and the Dems trying to gain control of both houses of Congress and then really begin pushing through their agenda in 2015 & 2016.

Remember the Democratic leadership are smart people that count on the greedy, shortsightedness and stupidity of the majority of their constituents to remain viable.

DO NOT RELY ON ANY OF THE ABOVE!! Call, Write, Email, and post/tweet your reps! We must be proactive on this! Tell your reps, hell tell them all that we, the American public, will no longer stand for these types of encroachments of our rights! The time to take a stand is NOW, before we have to resort to more drastic methods; we need to make sure that we educate fellow voters as well... we don't more sheep! Lets turn some of the sheep into sheepdogs!

And get them to join the NRA.

I remember when the NRA had just over 2 million members. It now numbers over 4 million. But we need 40,000,000. So if you are not a member, join. If you have shooting friends who are not members, get them to join.

absolutely. I would much rather email my reps and have nothing happen than to do nothing and have the GOP roll over.

Emails sent to my Congressman, Senators, President (lolz), and others including Sen. Colburn and Speaker Boehner.

ETA: Just sent emails to Sens. Graham and Reid.

We have to get organized and get all of our rights back... starting with the second. The rest will be easier if we still have our teeth. we absolutely have to support the NRA... I too was so so on the NRA, but love 'em or lump 'em they are the only organized group around; we just have to make sure that they know as wehll as the gov; that we are not accepting any compromises!

Join the NRA, the GOA, the NAGR, etc... donate to the NRA-ILA, join the ISRPA if you want some more local support as well.

Bottom line is we have to be proactive, make our voices heard and start playing the game that the anti's have been playing for years!

I don't want my daughters growing up in a socialist regime!

And talk to other gun owners that may not be as active or informed. Get them to join the NRA and write their rep and senators. I am shocked when I talk to people that are "into guns" and are not active in protecting their rights.

Ok, as most know there will be some pending firearm legislation coming up here pretty soon. I know the ban made it through in '94 but could it happen again? After reading though Diane Feinstein's proposed ban, I can honestly say I am scared. After what I would call a semi failed ban the was imposed from '94 to '04, she has refined the law to include almost anything that accepts a magazine. Can this really happen? It almost seems as she is laying out everything in an attempt to allow certain things as somewhat as a "plea bargain". basically, to me, she is doing what used car dealerships; putting a huge number on the table just to let it be bargained down to make it seem fair for both sides. I personally, think this is unacceptable and I have voiced my concern, but what is my voice to these elected officials. The panic buying has cleaned the shelves of the weapons, ammo, and accessories I enjoy collecting and I fear this is going to escalate to a point to where it cannot be obtained.

Might pass the House, but I doubt it.

Will not pass the Senate. Tom Coburn, Rand Paul, and a couple other senators would stonewall it until the globalists/statists/tyrants died of old age. Let us hope there is always such a principled coalition on guard and on duty to thwart these sneak-attacks on our God-given rights.

Scary to think what might happen otherwise.:ingo:
