:patriot: Is it time to consider flying the American Flag upside down as a sign of "Dire Distress"Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10

    176. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
    • (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

You must adhere to the purpose of the action as you expressed: ...except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. Also, could you please post a pic of the flag outside of your home being flown upside down? Thanks.

So, for you, the "..instance[] of extreme danger to life or property" began when he was "elected", not at the point when the healthcare bill was passed?
Yup, and the Health Care Bill confirms my original feelings on the matter...

Any time you get an admitted socialist in the White House, one which attended a church for 20 years preaching America is evil, where his wife wasn't even proud to be an American until her husband that consorts with known terrorists (Bill Ayers) was on the Presidential ballot.... yeah, we were in deep trouble back then.

    Thanks for answering my question.

I stopped flying the Current US flag when Obama took office. I now fly the Betsy Ross, Indiana State Flag and Gadsden in my front yard (spring to fall, I don't fly during winter).

I seriously doubt my neighbors realized it's a Betsy Ross, only my friends have noticed.

flying the colors in distress does not waver your Patriotism. if you were burning the flag it would.

heres something i wanna know, that REALY PISSES ME OFF!!!! Why do so many "so called" Patriots and Americans fly there tattered flags????? thats A VERY DISRESPECTFUL and un-patriotic display!!! i have seriously drove by flags that were in such disrepair but still being flown, that i have been compelled to get out of my car and retire the colors and properly dispose of them in an HONORABLE way. I almost did it to Arby's on 31 south and worthsville road in greenwood, but after about 20 phone calls to them an others i got them to replace it.

I bet their are members who will read this right now that have colors that need retired. PLEASE DO IT!!!! if your flag is faded, or tattered beyond respectful repair, then please take it down and take it to your local branch of the VFW or American Legion. PLEASE!!!! dont make me come and do it for you!!!

Good for you! I went through Plainfield one day and Duke Energy, who has an enormous flag out front, was flying one that had a couple of rips and tatters. I stopped the car and emailed their office (this was on a Sunday, they were closed) from the parking lot across the street. They responded to me on Monday saying they would have the appropriate people inspect the flag and decide if it needed attention. I told them, in my response email, that I was also forwarding a copy of my original and their response to all 3 local TV channels, the VFW, American Legion and everyone in my email addy list. Much to their credit, they changed the flag within the next few days.

There is just something deep within me that won't allow me to fly my nation's flag upside down. Too many good men and women have served and died to keep it flying, I don't feel I have the right to overshadow their sacrafice to display my personal offenses. Just my two cents and it's worth only half of that.

I have not responded to this thread yet since I have hard time believing this conversation is even going on. That's only my personal belief and I certainly don't expect everyone to think the same thing I do.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with things, but your comments above come the closest to describing what I would say. In my mind, anything else is disrespectful to those who have died and served for the symbol of America. Fly the flag properly and take care of it...

I would have hoped they serving for more than a "symbol".

For our freedoms, for liberty, to save lives or how about they vow they took to "uphold and defend the Constitution of these United States of America"...

Symbols are important but to belittle with that sort of drivel is unacceptable.

Glad to see you profited while thousands lost everything.

Back to topic...I do believe things are getting on the brink of disaster so it is up to the individual on whether they believe flying the flag upside down is the right way to show their feelings.

It is most definately time. In addition to flying it upside down you will also need a Gadsden flag underneath it.

I had mine flying upside down the day after HC passed, but I was forced to take it down. She said it was disgraceful and wouldn't have any of it. So I just took down our flag and fly my Gadsden instead. However, I have a smaller flag flying in my bedroom window upside down and it's been there like that since obamatard got elected.

    Also, see my profile.

The situation of dire distress in America started a long time ago and not just recently. Where were all the flag flippers when we invaded Iraq with no good reason for a war with them? Where were they when Clinton signed the NAFTA act which has caused more damage to America than any one bill in a hundred years? It has been time to stand up for our country as our rights have been stripped by politicians from both sides of the aisle for decades.:patriot:

:yesway:...This................plus the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.......

NAFTA is worse than the Federal Reserve? I wholeheartedly disagree.

The credit that the Fed extends to this country is what allows all of these ills (Wars, bubbles, bailouts, medicare, medicaid, SS, etc.) to take place.

It has been time to fly the flag upside down since 1913.

:yesway:...I would say that the formation of the FED was ths single most destructive piece of legislation to ever enter the book of congressional mishaps. It has destroyed the entire point of our constitution and acted as an enabler for every liberty-defeating governmental action since. The sad part is that most people choose to remain ignorant to the Fed and it's powers over our personal freedoms.......especially politicians....(I wonder why....)

For practical reasons, don't fly your flag that way. It's actually intended as an emergency signal. You don't want it to become like a car alarm.

I do agree sir. Action is what is important. Flying the flag upside down while sitting idle is just ridiculous. I will proudly fly my flag in the correct posture.

It is most definately time. In addition to flying it upside down you will also need a Gadsden flag underneath it.

I disagree. In these times, I believe it is even more important to fly the flag in it's intended position. To me, flying it upside down offers too much concession. I will never allow this ongoing corruption to steal the way the flag was meant to be hung. That being said, I am a believer in the max extent of personal freedom......so fly it how you will.........but for me..

I believe my opinion on this matter has been shown numerous times. I still find it as a show of disrespect and I still believe anyone that flies the flag upside down is farther from an american than the people they are protesting.

    Here's a thought
If you want to protest the administration then write your letters, go on rallys, protest in D.C., but please do not show the flag, our country, our brave men and women and even yourself disrespect.

I will offer an opposing opinion. I think we should fly the flag correctly and high. Just because we (the American citizens) have elected less then honorable people for president and congress, doesn't diminish the fact that we are Americans. If anything we should fly the flag higher as a sign of defiance. I plan on being here long after the current administration is in the history books. While I may be ashamed of the government workings in D.C. I am still proud of the country my father fought for, and I will fly that banner high and proud.

I WILL NOT LET THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION DICTATE HOW I DISPLAY MY PATRIOTISM!

If the federal government continues to grow and tyranny wins out, flag burning may become a sign of (true) patriotism.

Any symbol can become corrupted. Just look at what happened to the Swastika.

Wrong! Do you think that the traitors in "our" government care about the flag? They are not only spitting on the Constitution, but Old Glory and our country as well!

Doing such a thing will lead them to believe that they have won!:xmad:
Our flag is a symbol of the greatest country in the world - no matter what the TRAITORS in government do/say.
We must fight to "protect and defend the Constitution of the U.S. (as well as our flag) against all enemies - foriegn and DOMESTIC"

They would love to replace "Old Glory" with another (maybe Obama's symbol?) Now, THAT is one I would be happy to burn! :D

    GOD BLESS AMERICA! :patriot:

I took my flag and pole down the other day. I'm now of the opinion that we show the flag more disrespect by flying it. Why? I believe that if our founders were here to see what we've done to the country they gave their blood for, they'd take our flags and tell us we weren't worthy to be called Americans. Look at what we've allowed to happen to this country over the last 100 years. Our founders would say we are no more patriots than a person who only go to church on Easter and Christmas is a Christian. We "Americans" give little more than lip service to our country and yet expect the full benefits of being a real American citizens.

I don't see the flag as representing our politicians...I see it representing
the people of the states, the men an woman that died for our country...it
honors the mothers, the fathers of this country an so much more...each
stripe represents something...do a yahoo or google search on what the
flag means. I won't surrender, I'm concerned for my country, but I continue
to fly my flag right side up, above a sign that says "Socialism is soft Communism,
spread by (R) an (D) Progressives that are Traitors to our Constitution."
