    I'll blame my house having 54 year old wiring in it. On the plus side, my internet is free - reimbursed by my employer since I'm part of an on call rotation (I'd gladly pay my own internet and not be on call like I have been for the past 13 years.)

    Lol, you have uverse? Your installer screwed up. They're supposed to run a new home run line from your telephone network interface to the residential gateway. I know this because I used to install it.

    I don't know what any of the numbers mean either.

    Download speed = speed at which your connection downloads info (files, Web pages, etc) from the internet. Higher = better
    Upload speed = speed at which you send info TO the internet Higher = better (Not as important for most people)
    Ping = relative speed of your connection to the test Speedtest.net server. Lower is better
