I stopped by my mother's house, and decided to help her out by washing some dishes. Stuck my hand down a glass with a sponge, did a quick swirl of the hand when it broke, laying my hand open on the top side, near the first knuckle. Got close to the bone and a tendon, but not too bad. They've immobilized my trigger finger and told me I'd be off work for about 2 two weeks (I work with my hands and have to practice frequent handwashing). Anyway .... I'm cool with the time off ... got plenty of personal time ... But I am kind of feeling uneasy about never taking the time to get comfortable using my left hand for shooting. I could go to the range now, but I don't think I could load up my magazines (this typing is taking a long time too).
I don't guess I'm looking for advise, ... maybe some comiseration .. but it's definitely something to consider and a good reason to practice with the non-dominant. I'd say practice not just shooting, but carrying.
    Oh well.
If anyone see's a cripled guy at the Henryville range (Clark State Forest) come on over and say hi.

lula loader + off hand shooting is always a plus.

terribly sorry to hear about the finger though. may sound kinds  but after it is done healing up, do finger stretches. seriously.. you dont know how much flexibility you lose until you wear a splint or cast for a few weeks.

Hope you dont need to use your gun during this time.

I suggest an easy loader speed loader.

Or go with a wheel gun if you own one. Easy to reload..

I would practice with that. And try to be profiecent. But your natural line of sight is better than you.. you might be surprised.

Um...what does that have to do with a finger injury?

Because one shoots Jack Ruby style and does NOT use one's index finger.

Jack Ruby style: Look at the photos. Note how Ruby is holding his Colt. Ruby is using his driving finger (middle finger) to press the trigger, not his index finger.

I remember an uncle of mine who shot a revolver this way. One handed from a semi-crouch. It is a combination of point shooting and weapon index shooting.

The operating theory was that one could point his index finger and align the pistol in the bottom half of your vision.

I had some instruction last year about just this. The stuff I learned was golden for your exact situation. I'd contact rhino at ACT about some private weak hand gun manipulation training.
