Taylor questioning if guns are used for self defense or committing crimes. Chief says handguns are used to commit crimes. Says his job is to protect law abiding citizens from these people.

Chief says basically the license is handy to provide another reason for arrest if they happen to find the individual isn't permitted.

Listening to this is incredibly frustrating. One could infer from listening to the LEO's speak that the average INGO member has a better understanding of the law and case law involved with firearms.

Bill Owensby, IN FOP. Represents 14k police officers...opposed.

Rep Taylor...what keeps criminals from carrying guns? Bill: Nothing. So why do honest citizens need to do this? Because you're a law abiding citizen. :n00b:

Lucas calling him on his oath. Reads it to him. Assumes the FOP members took that oath. Says he supports the words shall and shall not...Lucas asks why his policy is to oppose that oath.

Bill: We'll support the laws when it's changed. Seems to think the oath means nothing as respects the constitution, only the laws passed to regulate it. Sigh.

Lucas asks if it stops criminals from carrying...Bill: if it only stops one it's enough. (go ahead Bill, say do it for the children). Lucas, more people are killed by heart disease and car accidents...should we take car keys and cheeseburgers? Bill: Guns are violent objects, 100%. :xmad:

Sen Delph, brings up vehicles being used as weapons. Article 1 Sec 32...do you agree with the constitution? It's too broad, we can debate the meaning of the US and IN Const. but right now we need a permit and we don't support removing it. Somebody approved it at some point so obviously the const didn't mean what you think it means.

i.e. we support the laws as we think they should be written.

Bill: I've been here since 9 and it's been 3.5hrs debating a law that isn't broken, don't change it. Lucas and Bill, they will not agree no matter how many times Lucas reads the constitution to him.

Lucas wants to return to the original interpretation, Bill wants the power.

Lucas reads him the Sheriffs oath...the const is plainly written, do you support licensing const rights? Yes.

Does the permission slip stop crime? It may. Tap dancing again.

Lucas - someone inclined to shoot an officer will, the permission slip won't stop them.

Taylor: There are restrictions of voting, time, place, ID etc. Do we want to restrict human sacrifice? Isn't that against the law?

He assumes his point is made. What a tool

Thank you for providing this commentary Thor. Unfortunately following along is really raising my blood pressure.

Seeing as I am at work, I'm going to have to walk away for a bit.
