    ^Stupid comment

As if you could even get to his room with literally 20+ family members being escorted out by all of the extra cops at the hospital last night.

Hey, he is a murder suspect. I am sure many guys in blue "keeping an eye" on the prisoner......and with that many family members even a good excuse for stepping on his air maker tube.

Funny how you guys champion your constitutional rights garbage for your "brother" and then want to remove said due process for a "thug".

Emotions are high on this one.

    I get that.

I didn't bother going down to the ER last night for that very reason and have avoided the press coverage on tv. It's just the idea that I get lectured about the guilty being set free on technicalities or defense attorneys having no soul for knowingly defending the guilty, INGOers will give me the riot act. But the minute this story broke, they act like cheerleaders when they believe a "gangbanger" or "thug" sort of guy is believed to be dead in a shootout with IMPD.

Yes churchmouse they are, and understandably so. Cooler heads will prevail, but it's going to take a while before that happens.

We can't take the law into our own hands, even as much as a lot of us would like to. When we do we've leapt into the steaming pile of cowpies where the scumbags live. More now then before we need to back LEO's in any way that we can...wherever we can.

Besides, it's always better to walk softly and carry a big a$$ framing hammer (or some such tool). Be discreet.

A gun owner was firing off his AK in the back yard and shot at the police when they arrived to investigate.

I guess the cops actually have a use for MRAPs afterall. :n00b:

Do they issue hard plate body armor to the average LEO or do they only get their soft body armor?

Not just IMPD. Most of us don't shed any tears when thug or gangbanger assumes room temperature after being in a shootout with Joe Citizen either. Maybe I am just not understanding your post.

Emotions are high not only thru INGO,the city, state and the IMPD. Can't blame folks for comments about wanting to kill the POS suspect. Clearly no one is going to or be able to if they tried but I'm not going to bash these "heat of the moment" comments.

Funny how you guys champion your constitutional rights garbage for your "brother" and then want to remove said due process for a "thug".
This raises the question of how much 'due process' is necessary in any given situation. So far as i am aware, there is no question in the universe what happened in this situation. The purpose of due process is to guarantee that adequate measures have been taken to be sure that the accused is in fact guilty. I can live with that being truncated in cases in which there is no question which does not involve speculative references time travel or space aliens. If we hold absolutely to this, we would invalidate the concept of self defense given that acting in such a way is tantamount to summary execution without a trial. Also significant is what one considers due process. After all, when the Constitution was enacted, no one of the time envisioned that we would reach a state in which such preposterous delays were accepted and the obviously guilty spent decades awaiting execution or else walked away. I would also point out that the concept of barring people from affirmatively providing for their own protection was completely alien to the authors of the Constitution and its amendments. While I am not advocating summary execution per se, it is a lot closer to the starting point which actually worked than the train wreck of a criminal justice system we now have.

I think the only productive thing I can do right now is to pray for peace for the family of the Officer and donate if there is a need to the Officer's family.

This is deplorable. I just can't understand the blatant disregard for the value of human life. It hurts me to know that there are people out there who truly don't care if they kill someone or not. Prayers for the officer's family and all that are affected by this tragedy. Just a few houses down the road from me (in two directions actually) are memorials for fallen officers. Although that happened many years ago, I still occasionally stop by while I'm walking the dog or something and say a few words. I think today is a good day to do that. My deepest condolences

    .- ...- --- -.
This officer was hit below the vest, so a rifle plate likely wouldn't have helped.

Contrary to what the bubble-headed bleach blond on WTHR reported this morning. She stated the officer was shot with a high-powered rifle that "went right through his bullet-proof vest".

Inaccuracy in the media. Who'da thought ?

Even though she is incorrect, with soft armor, it likely would have.

Just getting caught up with this story. This is so very tragic. And maddening. This city needs to come up with the $$ to better serve those that protect us and keep the animals in their f***ing cages. Sincere condolences to the IMPD family.

Indy has the money, just not for us. Who cares if we don't have enough backup and guys are getting burned out because of increased run load when a billionaire needs corporate welfare or there's some sweet, sweet real estate development deals to be done.

SWAT, K9, and EOD are the only units that are issued body armor with rifle plates. Every other officer has to buy their own.

    Thanks for the answer.
Do you know what's the proportion of officers who decide to buy their own?
I guess AR500 plates offer cheap protection for those officers.
Maybe not that usefull unless you know its a gun related call and you have time to take it out of your trunk and wear it. :dunno:
